They say we're outdoorsy types in Sydney,
but did you know most of us spend ninety percent of our time indoors.
Some people spend more time in front of the bathroom mirror getting ready to go out,
than actually being outside.
Ironically, that's where the problem is. To clean our bathrooms and the rest
of our homes,
we pump them full of toxic cleaning products. (sniff) That fake fresh smell you get after
using most cleaning products
really means toxic chemicals
which are harmful and mess with your health in the long run. Think about it. In a
year the average household generates 38 Iitres
of toxic waste. And yep,
the bulk of it goes down the drain and ends up in the ocean. It's like we're
conducting one big chemical experiment in our home.
Nobody knows the full impact of these chemicals. So don't be a lab rat,
protect your family and do your own non-toxic cleaning experiments
with stuff you already have in your cupboard. Vinegar isn't just good on your fish n chips,
it's one of the best cleaners around cutting through grease and mould quicker than
you can say
'four potato scallops and a serve of chips, please.' And, it only costs about a dollar a litre!
'I get two serves of chips' There are a lot more ways to go chemical-free
and save money. Check them out at the City of Sydney's
Green Villages website. While you're there, grab a friend
and hop along to one our free workshops where you can even learn how to make
your own cleaning products.
This is all part of Sydney 2030. By working together to create Green
Villages,
we can sustain the spirit about neighborhoods and nurture our planet.
