Planning for a safe landing is important with any agility obstacle, most importantly, the
table. As mentioned, in a prior segment, other obstacles, generally, the dog is not required
to land in a specific area, with the table obstacle, we have a three foot by three foot
area. It's going to be crucial that you time the right speed, space and distance, to ensure
your dog lands on the center of the table. For example, I'm going to bait my dog. Generally speaking, most tables will vary
in height but I want the dog to get comfortable with the landing, to ensure that they stay
in the center of the target.
Also mentioned earlier, most agility competitions, you cannot use food to bait your dog. In some
exercises I will use it, eventually, on competition day, I will substitute a roll of my fingers
to replace actual food.
