Coty: you don't read uh "gonna" in Curious George books right? so
Prime: I don't read a lot of Curious George books
Coty: well, your literacy is is not my problem there
Prime: Hello Youtube
"Retro Prime" here from Retro Prime Gaming and today i am joined with
Coty: Coty Corvette, Prime: Alright and today we are going to be doing a "Retro Talk"
this is where we talk about old school goodness
uh, vintage video games back in the heyday
and were going to start it off by getting a little bit of information here from
Coty Corvette. So what is your gaming history?
Where did it all Begin? Coty: so I think
that my history in general is
a gaming history, uh pretty much every major event in my life
I can attribute to some game at that time. Prime: Right on.
Coty: But, it all started I think my earliest memory in general is a
double dragon II "the revenge" Prime: *laughs* haha yeah!
Coty: um, I was just a wee lad, and uh I remember
standing up on the side a recliner chair
just watching my dad beat the snot for thugs, so.
Prime: we talked a little bit the other day about "Abobo"
uh, now when I was young I had a nightmare about "Abobo"
just hoppin' through a wall, bustin' through! that was a scary dude.
I mean the Double Dragon series was very a awesome game
and that's where it all started for you? Coty: Double Dragon was
was the start, and then just from there it was just NES
for several years. Prime: Cool, and what was the last game that you played?
Coty: the last game? like as of recently? Prime: Yeah, like today, yesterday.
Coty: well, last night I, um, popped in the last of us again for a new game plus
and uh put on the headset
and with the surround sound and everything like that it was
a more terrifying than I had expected!
Prime: in, in a good way though. Coty: in a good way, yeah. Prime: cool.
uh so, up next what was the first game that
like blew you away with this graphics like pop it in, not really
not, not sure what to expect and then your just like "ohhh this is amazing!"
Coty: Well, um the
the first game that really blew me away with graphics was actually Virtua Fighter at the arcade.
um, I had no experience 3d graphics you know
SNES? NES? I'm walking through as
this wee little lad I was talking about earlier, and I looked up and i see a
I forget her name. That female characters with the blonde hair
Prime: I dunno. Coty: anyway, she had a 3D ponytail. And I was like "what the hell is this?"
like, this isn't video games? this is reality. Prime: Yeah.
Coty: i mean looking back on it obviously they've got the jagged noses and
um they need some surgery done but, but at the time I was just like you know
they're
is a world outside a SNES and Genesis graphics.
Prime: yeah I mean, anyone remembers seeing that game
and it was just intense. I mean we hadn't seen anything like that up until
that point
and um yeah, I mean to that day.
to this day it just sticks out in my mind as one of the
biggest jumps. The other one I remember was on the first time I played Mario 64.
Coty: oh man, yeah. Prime: Getting to be Mario in that 3d environment, and just running around
jumping like an idiot. Over and over, and over just to hear him jump. Coty: Or playing with
his face.
Prime: *laughs*yeah. Coty: you know? grabbing his nose and pulling on his nose and then letting it rubber snap back.
or uh you know on a SNES we actually had like Star Fox?
Prime: oh yeah. Coty: You know which was kinda, it was... Prime: "Do a Barrel Roll"
Coty: *laughs* it was doing the 3D sorta thing
Prime: yeah. Coty: But it was kinda on inferior hardware, and then we started seeing games that
where like, that was the norm.
that's when I think I was like you know hey, word.
things are changing. Prime: Yeah. Coty: Things are going to be totally different moving forward, right when I saw Virtua
fighter.
I uh, I hear a lot of um like oldschool arcade gamers talk about
um the "Star Wars" game kinda like in the same way we're mentioning
this. and to be fair I mean...Donkey Kong
Joust? I dunno. Coty: Yeah. Prime: and then Star Wars like this
space shooter! yeah it's
it's crazy how much things just jump like that from one game to another
Coty: Just all of a sudden it just hits you, that you know like,
if you dont' jump on that bandwagon like your gonna get left behind ya know?
So. which is fine. Prime: So next question here, this is a hot... one
PlayStation 4 or X-box uhmm..... Prime and Coty: Xbox one.
Coty: umm okay so
to be completely honest uh just to come out and say it
ps4 no question, honestly
outside the launch lineup I don't see any reason to even go for the X-box one.
uh being the hardware is so similar and there's been reports obviously that the
x-box one is uh underperforming compared to the ps4 on the same games
I don't think it's always gonna be that way, um but
you know as of right now if I were to buy a console at launch, it would definitely be a PS4
that being said, not gonna buy console at launch I'm gonna give it um
probably until March when we've got stuff like "Watch Dogs" coming out. Prime: Yeah, that's a good idea man.
Coty: Titan fall even. yeah for X-Box one. Prime: You're wrong though....It's the
"Sega Dreamcast"! Coty: *Laughs* Prime: So,
whenever you have to choose it's always the Sega Dreamcast. Coty: I'll play Dreamcast 'til then.
Prime: but uh, you're totally right man, I'm not a fan of buying consoles at launch
uh, for me it's because I like to get like THE
limited edition console, right? you know the one that's gonna be a different
color. Or. Coty: Yeah.
Prime: comes with a special game pack. And they never do that at launch man. You
get the barebone system.
So I wanna wait till there's like an exclusive you know? Get me inna
into blue color. Coty: Yeah. Prime: Even something as stupid as that I'm like "ohhh" I get all excited
You know? Coty: Right.
Prime: it's going to have a neat box ya know?
Coty: Well I mean, and you, nowadays you know we have the Internet, and there's so much hype around
these consoles before they come out
that we uh, we go on there and there's there's people already
mock-ups. There was mock-ups of the PS4 and X-Box one before we even knew what
the boxes looked like.
You know, so there's all that hype there and now we're seeing like,
uh there was an article I don't you remember where I saw it, but it was like the ps4 in 25
different colors
with like different games emblems on there, and I was just drooling
cause like, I would love to get a final fantasy 15
Prime: You know I haven't seen any mock-ups up of the "Mad Catz" gaming system.
Coty and Prime: *laughs* Prime: I wonder if that will be a popular one?
Coty: Yeah, uh it will. For the cheap parents that like to go and buy the third party
"Mad Catz" consoles even. Yeah. Prime: so one of your favorite
RPG's is Final Fantasy 7, correct?
Coty: Yeah, yeah. And um, FF7 actually
um is kinda funny because when,
when people get, you know when go and ask somebody what their favorite Final Fantasy is
Prime: Right, they always say "6" cuz that's the right one! *laughs8
but, but tell me what
whats great about ff7, cuz maybe I am missing something.
Coty: I'm just come right out and say it, number one it was my first.
Prime: Okay, totally. Coty: So, I think with most people if you ask them
what their favorite final fantasy? They will usually default to their first one.
um, because it is such a gateway into uh as a series its such a gateway into
what video games can be, so um
and I would probably be right on board with FF6 if that was my first one
Prime: Yeah. Coty: And I think I'm ready to come out and admit that as far like story,
characters, things like that
FFsix is actually going to be uh the superior game between the two
um, but ff7 holds a special place Prime : Totally. Coty: because
it came out um when I was 10 years old and
you know, at that point translation errors things like, weren't a big deal
to me
Prime: Yeah. Coty: Because there the amount reading it took to actually get through the game, number one
It helped me too.
um take like you know like dialects things like that the way people would use slang.
Prime: oh yeah. Coty: And I would kinda read it and be like "what is that word?" like "G-O-N-N-A" was gonna
"going to" you yeah gonna is gonna
Prime: I use that word all the time. Coty: Right! me too. But then when I type it out
and everything, and now it make sense to me but you don't read
you don't read uh "gonna" in Curious George books right? so
Prime: I don't read a lot of Curious George books
Coty: well, your literacy is
is not my problem, okay
so at the time it was like it was like I was reading and I was having fun, it was almost like a
comic books sorta situation, because I was getting attached to these characters
and attach to the story
um as a matter-of-fact I remember getting to the shinra building
within the first you know few hours in game, um and being like
"well, looks like I am almost to the end of the first disc" Prime: yeah. Coty: and I was so wrong Prime: yeah, HA
Coty: but like there was uh, it was just kind of like
these things in games that I hadn't seen before as far as like the story shifting and changing
um, right before my eyes. Doing things that I didn't expects, so I mean
I never heard anything about the game before besides seeing it in a pepsi
commercial so
Prime: yeah, no no that game was huge.
um, thanks for sharing that with me man. Coty:totally Prime: ummm, so
and we kinda touched base on this earlier before the show but
when it comes to what makes a great game
Is it the graphics of the game, is it the game play what
what weighs the most to you, like when you're enjoying a game
