Hi, my name is Inae Rurup. I'm a junior here at Hofstra, and I'm studying geography and painting.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who's come down to my show, "Andy and His Women."
I made these paintings centered on Andy Warhol because he really was so influential
and changed everything about the art world. He just changed everything.
And for all that he's done, we know so little about him. So, what I wanted to do was
paint the women that were either his muses, like Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe,
or just people that were more directly involved in his life, like Edie Sedgwick,
who was always hanging around at the factory with him. I made them in an attempt to discover
a little more about who he is and, maybe sort of critique him in a way, because,
with his work you really never know whether he is criticizing American culture and celebrities
or whether he's embracing them, and maybe that's what he wanted for himself. But you really never know.
So, again, I just want to say thanks to the Library and to the Art Department for helping me put this together,
and thank you to everyone who's come down to the show and said such nice things about the paintings.
And I hope you enjoyed it.
