Kyle Bradshaw here with your Cruiser Customizing tip of the week.
This week we’re going to talk a little bit about floorboards which give you much more
riding comfort and position compared to the foot pegs we talked about last week. This
week’s tip is going to really be revolving around those who would like to purchase floorboards
and who’d like to know the different options that are available.
We’ve got floorboards from lots of different manufacturers, lots of different styles, shapes,
sizes, and reasons that you would put floorboards on your bike.
Now, of course, most motorcycles come with either a standard mid control, forward controls,
or floorboards. If you’ve got a mid control on your bike there are several options as
far as getting floorboards onto the bike. One of my personal favorites is Cobra. Cobra
does an awesome job of giving you make and model mounted, bolts upright so you can mount
easy, and they’ve got matching front and rear floorboards for most applications.
A couple universal applications are the Highway Hawk application as well as the Kuryakyn application.
Both of these take some sort of adapter to attach those to a fairly universal floorboard.
Now if you want a truly badass look for your ride, Behrends has done an awesome job with
their flamed long boards and their matching flamed passenger floorboards.
In addition to the flamed floorboards that Behrends does, they also do adjustable passenger
floorboards. So these floorboards take a special mount that attaches to the back of the bike,
they then mount to these floorboards here that then allow the passenger to position
their floorboards where they feel comfortable. it’s a really neat option.
Another reason that people go with floorboards is so they can have a heel-toe shift option.
MC Enterprise offers the heel-toe shift option for a variety of motorcycles.
While on the topic of floorboard, let’s talk about the Jardine Floorboard Control
for just one second. Most people who put forward controls on their bikes lose the ability to
put their feet directly below them. Jardine solved that problem with what they call their
mini-floorboard. These mini-floorboards mount just below the forward control which allows
you to have a floorboard option as well as a forward control.
Pretty neat idea from the guys from Jardine.
If your bike, similar to this V-Star 1300, came with floorboards, Kuryakyn makes floorboard
covers for most of those applications which simply replace the rubber pad that’s on
the top of the floorboard with a nice-looking chrome piece.
So now that we’ve touched on most of the main components of floorboards, let’s talk
a little bit about the application itself.
Most of the rear or passenger floorboards are going to be fully chromed, fully finished.
Don’t be surprised or shocked, however, if on the bottom of your matching driver floorboard,
it’s not quite so finished.
The bottom of the driver floorboard isn’t meant to be flipped up, it’s meant to pivot
to allow you to have ground clearance, but it’s not usually show quality finish.
So quite simply, the addition of floorboards to your bike will allow you to have more foot
room, great comfort, and are very beneficial for the long haul. Thank you for watching
this week’s Cruiser Customizing tip of the week. Stay tuned next week when we show you
how to remove burned on rubber and blue from your exhaust pipes.
Get comfortable on your motorcycle with the addition of rider floorboards. Check out floorboards
from Cobra, Kuryakyn, Arlen Ness, Highway Hawk, Jardine and many more. Thank you for
