This video just shows some areas around rue Mouffetard on a Saturday evening.
Looking up the rue du Cardinal Lemoine towards place de la Contrescarpe.
A restaurant on the intersection with the pedestrian rue Rollin (on the right).
Ernest Hemingway used to live on this street.
The place de la Contrescarpe was quite crowded and very lively this evening.
The weather was superb, which encouraged people to come out and enjoy.
Notice that two of the three bicycles you see here are Vélib' rental bicycles, which is common.
A nice slow pan of the place, looking from the east.
Several street performers, including multiple street musicians.
The repertory of French street musicians seems to have frozen back in the 60s and 70s.
If it’s not the Beatles, it’s the Eagles.
Anyway, you can see how animated and cozy this area looks.
And in fact there are thousands of places like this in Paris.
Practically every restaurant and café in Paris has a sidewalk terrace.
And the cuisine isn’t limited to just French food.
A mix of classic and modern façades.
This roundabout is next to the famous rue Mouffetard.
A nice little supermarket with fresh produce and a big selection of cool drinks.
This was at around 7 PM, 90 minutes before sunset. The temperature was about 72° F.
These people were offering free massages in exchange for tips. I see them a lot.
I’m not sure what their business model or motivation is.
I love this shot. Pretty as a postcard, and even better in real life!
Nice leafy trees, charming façades on the surrounding buildings.
Pasta, French food, Vietnamese food, ice cream, whatever you want.
This is the rue Mouffetard, continuing south from this intersection.
And this is looking the other way on the street, towards the north.
No matter how small the restaurant, there are always a few tables out front.
This is a bit further north on the rue Descartes.
It’s the continuation of the rue Mouffetard, just with a name change.
Lots of restaurants and people, and the evening’s not in full swing yet.
And like I said, there are thousands of streets like this in Paris.
Another charming spot (some of this is also seen in my rue Mouffetard video).
The old École Polytechnique (now government offices) is right behind us.
The hill of Saint Geneviève, patron saint of Paris.
Some nice apartments up there, these days affordable only for the wealthy.
The red neon cigar on the upper left marks a tobacco shop.
A slightly quieter corner in between the busy spots.
The church of Saint Étienne du Mont, made famous by a recent *** Allen movie.
And that’s the back of the huge Panthéon in the background, looking south.
This is the place where *** filmed (“Midnight in Paris”), in front of the church.
Thank you for watching my video.
