to help newcomers with Settlement in Canada.
Charlene: What do I do here at CHS?
I’m a Settlement Worker.
I work with Deaf, Deafened and hard of hearing newcomers
and provide support with Permanent Residence,
settlement,
refugees from other countries that are in danger
or are victims of domestic violence (DV).
I provide support with health, finance,
filling out applications,
citizenship and PR (permanent residence),
doctor visits.
It is important for me to give newcomers empowerment.
I’m excited about this vlog!
What is this vlog about?
Maureen: This vlog is about the Community Forum.
This vlog discusses the possibility of offering night classes
for those who cannot attend our day classes.
There are several reasons why some cannot attend:
1) Employment during the day
2) Have children, no childminding available
3) Many may not be aware of our program
So, this is a great opportunity
for you to attend the forum
to learn more about our LINC program.
Charlene: So, what do we hope to achieve
if we have night classes?
Maureen: If we have enough interest to join night classes,
there’s a possibility we could start classes in April 2016.
Charlene: Wonderful idea!
It would be wonderful
for other immigrants to join night classes.
Charlene: I want to go back to our discussion
about the community forum.
When is the community forum?
Maureen: March 22nd, 2016
Charlene: What time does it start at?
Maureen: Starts at 6:00 p.m. Ends at 8:00 p.m.
Charlene: I want to inform you, hearing family members
of Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing newcomers,
age 18 and up interested in attending the forum
are welcome to attend.
Hearing husbands or wives are also welcome.
We will provide ASL-English interpreter and notetaking.
If an interpreter is needed, please contact us
and we will provide an interpreter.
Thank you.
