What sort of scarring would you expect? Since we are borrowing tissue from the tummy
to reconstruct the breast, you would expect a scar on the tummy, which is a long scar
running from one side of the tummy to the other. But it is quite a low positioned scar.
So it can very easily be hidden by underwear. There is also a second scar around the belly
button as you can appreciate, one when you are taking away the skin from the tummy, the
belly button needs to be re-sited to its new, proper location. So you have a second scar
around the belly button. And then you have the scarring in the area of the reconstruction,
the shape of which can significantly vary depending on the amount of skin of the breast
that has been taken away as part of the mastectomy. If you've had a *** sparing, sorry, a skin
sparing mastectomy, then the scarring that you would have around the breast would just
be a small circular scar from where the *** and areola has been taken away. On the other
hand, if you've had a formal mastectomy, then you would have a long elliptical scar on the
reconstructed breast, which, again, can run from one side of the breast to the other side.
