[Background noise]
Today is the Wokingham Borough Community Conference and it's all about working together.
Money is tight, as we know, and we've got to start being innovative and we have to be
creative and go to co-operate more
so we've got representatives from the public sector, the private sector, community groups
and volunteer groups. There is about two hundred and thirty of us here today and we're working together
to try and find out how we can deliver the best range of services and quality of life
for Wokingham residents.
It's a fantastic opportunity to network, both with the other charities that are here on the day
but also the councillors,
the officers of the council and to really get chance to tell them what we do and what
all the groups that we work with across the borough do as well.

There's a really wide range of voluntary roles within the borough that people can help with
whether you want to help children, old people, animals, help with environmental groups,
the best thing to do is have a look on our website or maybe come and see us at the volunteer centre.
We can talk one-to-one and give you a real flavour for what will suit you in terms of your interests and availability.
It's increasingly important for communities to work together
because of the changes that happening in the public sector.
It's important also because it brings good things like
finding solutions locally
and
getting more people involved.
In Norreys for example, we have a project now which is bringing together
local residents and community groups with the statutory services.
Everybody's is working together around problems that have been identified within
the community.
I think the conference today has exceeded
all of our expectation, all of the partners here today. We've had over two hundred and fifty
delegates register and attend today, we've had fifty stands all demonstrating very clearly
how partnership working is improving life for residents in Wokingham and those stands have been
from the private sector, the voluntary sector, the community sector and the statutory organisations
as well. All coming together to make life much better for Wokingham residents, fantastic!
