This is the 21st year of the California Jr. Duck Stamp Program
and this is our judging that we do once a year from all of the entries that come in from basically all around California.
It’s pretty exciting, this year we have over 3,000 entries
all the way from up beyond Eureka California all the way down to Tijuana Slough.
We eventually need to get 1500 pieces of art down to 25.
We’re doing that in a series of rounds where the first couple of rounds we’re trying to reduce about five to six hundred
down to one hundred and get it down to where eventually we have all of them reduced to 100
then we’ll reduce that number down to 50 and then down to the 25 winners.
Then at that point with those 25 winners we’ll eventually sort it out to where we have 3 first place, 3 second place
and 3 third place and sixteen honorable mentions.
Then, eventually they’ll use numbered cards almost like in the Olympics
where the piece of art gets a score and the top scores get the first place.
I’ve been really impressed with the vegetation that’s been used in most of these
they’ve been appropriate. And it pops out and has great detail.
We’re in the beginning stages of our judging here and we’ve got three beautiful pieces
and we will win with anyone of them.
They’re each really well observed.
I love the harlequin up close, but I think the amount of contrast needs to pop.
But if it’s just as is, I’m going to vote for that one.
