In '39 I went into the army to study to be an officer.
I finished the school and became lieutenant.
I served for two years. The war began when I was to be demobilized
- ready to go home. I was immediately sent to Stalingrad.
And became a commander of a battery of cannons.
There were four cannons. They were pulled
by horses back then, not cars.
The Germans killed my father, mother, and brother Motele here.
But I reckoned with them. I killed more of them
than they killed of mine. I cut them into pieces.
