Hi. I'm Anjuli Johnson, I'm a mixed media artist from Raleigh North Carolina. The piece
behind me is titled True North. I painted it to represent the compass and a specific
compass actually called the lea wanna, for those of you that don't know what the leo
wanna compass is, it's a compass that only works when you have faith that it will work.
How I represented this is through a lot of the elements that you see, in specifically
the text, that I added. It's written on rice paper with an ink pen. It looks like words
but it really is not, if you look closely you really can't read anything it's just gibberish
basically. It represents the fact that the lea wanna would only work, and you'd only
be able to understand it if you have faith, then it will lead you in the right direction
and we're willing to follow it. A lot of the other elements I added kind of represented
that as well, the cirlces here have constellations on them and there are a lot of mathematical
elements too which represent the natural laws that govern the physical world that we follow
here n our lives, so basically we have this piece that represents the constant that we
deal with in life everyday. By faith, by truth and all these things. There's also distractions
as well, and I represented those as well by the splatters that you can see and specifically
from the paper pieces that I added, they're very distracting and they kind of draw the
eye, and there's a lot of these places that cover up some of these other elements and
we are distracted every day from the direction we're going and it can be sometimes hard to
overcome. Basically this piece was painted on a 18 by 18 canvas. I used acrylic paint,
ink, rice paper, quill and paper and card stock and it's available at skaptart.com,
so if you like it check it out. Thanks!
