It's Time to Change: Education
And We Have a Plan
- That's the big answer to everything.
Education. They say: "We need more money to education.
We need more books, more teachers, more classrooms, more schools,
we need more testing for the kids.
You say to them: "You know, we've tried all that
and the kids still can't pass the test."
"Don't you worry about that. We're gonna lower the passing grades."
And that's what they're doing in a lot of this schools, now.
They lower the passing grades, so more kids can pass.
More kids pass, the school looks good, everybody's happy,
the I.Q. of the country slips another 2 or 3 points,
and pretty soon all you'll need to get into college is a *** pencil.
"Got a pencil? Get the *** in there, it's physics."
Then everybody wonders why seventeen other countries
graduate more scientists than we do. "Education."
- Now, I don't mean to say that being wrong is the same thing as being creative.
What we do know is if you not prepared to be wrong,
you'll never come up with anything original,
and by the time they get to be adults, most kids have lost that capacity.
They have become frightened of being wrong
and we run our companies by that way, we stigmatize mistakes.
And we're now running national education systems,
where mistakes are the worst thing you can make.
And the result is that we are educating people out of their creative capacities.
Picasso once said this. He said that
"All children are borned artists.
The problem is to remain an artist as we grow up."
I believe this passionately, that we don't grow
into creativity, we grow out of it
or rather, we get educated out of it.
- They are innocent, they don't know
because your schools do not teach you how to think.
They teach you how to be a cog in the wheel.
A chemist, a lawyer, a structural engineer, but no generalist.
If they tough you how to think there would be no war,
there would be no abuse
and this is what we do with children.
When they say to you: "This person is bad."
What the hell does that tell you? Nothing.
Means that they didn't like something he did.
If your mother says: "You're a Catholic, you don't play with that Lutheran girl."
They start poisoning the well...
They come from the South, say:
"I'm gon' get me a *** and I'm gon' kick his ***."
Is that that guy speaking
or is that what he learned in the culture that he lives in?
Think about it. There are no bad people.
What do you think a soldier is?
They show 'em pictures of Japanese sneaking around, killing people,
gang raping girls and enlistment goes up 75%.
That's how a country keeps its people patriotic,
by pointing out the short comings of other people.
All people,
all people need clean air, clean water, a good education and love.
