Apple and AT&T have agreed to finally settle a long-standing class action lawsuit by iPad
users who said they were baited with empty promises when they bought their iPads.
Apple started selling its iPad in spring 2010, and around the same time it offered unlimited
3G data packages to users who bought its iPad 3G models.
However, Apple canceled the service in June of that year, making many customers who shelled
out hundreds of dollars for the tablet device unhappy.
A group of upset customers took Apple to court, and now a judge in San Jose, Calif. has approved
a settlement between AT&T, Apple and the plaintiffs. (Via Engadget)
In it, GigaOM reports Apple and AT&T will give $40 to any person in the United States
who bought or ordered one of the 3G-enabled devices on or before Jun. 7, 2010 — the
day Apple and AT&T discontinued unlimited 3G.
Apple Insider points out, even if you didn't subscribe to AT&T for the unlimited 3G package,
you're in for a bit of a small pay day as well. Those users will be able to get a $20
monthly discount on AT&T's 5G data plan for a year.
And even if you no longer use the 3G enabled iPad you bought in 2010, you're still in luck.

ago, regardless of whether they still use it. (Via Bloomberg)
The winners in the case will have to wait until next year before cashing in. That's
because the settlement won't get final approval until February.
