Gemma's Bigger Bolder Baking Bubbly Baby Cupcakes
Hi Bold Bakers! This week, I'm teaming up with some other great YouTube Channels to
bring you a digital baby shower for Joy Cho of Oh Joy!
If you're not familiar with Oh Joy! I strongly suggest you subscribe to her channel. Joy
creates beautiful videos covering parenting, DIY, fashion and food. And she is having a
baby girl.
My contribution to the baby shower are Bubble Baby Cupcakes. And be sure to stick around
to the very end of my video so you can see all the other great videos in the playlist.
So let's get baking!
You're going to start out by making your cupcakes. In a previous video for Cupcake Bouquet,
I showed you my master recipe so you can use that or you can use any of your favorite recipes.
A nice extra is you can use pink and blue cupcake liners and if they're keeping the
sex a secret you can use yellow or any color you like.
Now that our cupcakes are organized, we're going to make sugar cookies to make the little babies' faces.
In a food processor, we're going to add in our flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Mix these ingredients together until combined.
To the dry ingredients, add your butter.
And put on the lid and pulse until it resembles bread crumbs.
And that just takes around 5 seconds.
After a few seconds of pulsing, this is what your butter should look like. Nice big chunks.
Now add your whisked eggs and vanilla.
And then on with the lid again and we're going to pulse again until it just comes together.
It only takes a few seconds.
Ok. This looks perfect. You want to mix it until it just forms a dough.
We're going to turn out our dough onto a floured surface.
Wrap it in cling film and chill it in the fridge for around an hour.
While our sugar dough is chilling, we're going to make the vanilla buttercream frosting to
make the bath bubbles for our cupcakes.
In a stand mixer or you can use a hand mixer, add in your room temperature butter.
We're going to cream this on medium speed for around 1-2 minutes and just let it loosen up.
Once your butter is creamed, we're slowly going to add in our icing sugar on low speed.
When all of the sugar is in there, go around the bowl with a spatula just to make sure
everything was combined.
Now we add in our vanilla.
Then turn the machine back on high speed then cream this until it becomes really light and
fluffy. This takes around 6 minutes.
A lot of you have questions about buttercream and this is what a good one should look like.
Mmm. Yum. And it tastes great. We're going to set this aside and let it chill and we're
going to roll out our sugar cookies.
Our sugar dough is nice and chilled and ready to roll so let's make our baby faces.
Roll these out on a well floured surface because they can be kind of sticky.
You also want to work fast.
This is my favorite sugar cookie recipe.
And because Christmas is coming up, I highly recommend you add it to your repertoire because
it's a real crowd pleaser.
Make sure not to roll your dough too thin. You want them kind of thick. Then just cut
out your little faces.
Place your cookies on a tray lined with parchment paper.
Now we're ready to pop these little guys in the oven.
Bake your cookies at 325 degrees F until lightly golden brown.
While your cookies are baking, we're going to whip up our glaze really fast to color
in the babies' faces.
In a large bowl, we're going to add in our confectioners sugar.
To this we're going to add drop by drop of water until we get the consistency we want.
Add in a tiny bit more water.
And this is the consistency you're looking for. Not too thin
because you want it to coat your cookie.
Now with our glaze, we're going to color it.
Kind of a peachy color for the skin
and then black for the eyes and mouth.
I'm going to put the colors I used along with the recipe for this video in the description box below.
Our sugar cookies are out of the oven. They look really good. We have to let them go totally
cold before we glaze them.
This is the first part of assembly for the cupcakes and it is decorating the baby faces.
Just use a small spoonful of your glaze and spread it around your cookie with a spoon.
And go all the way with the edges.
As you can see the glaze is nice and smooth on top of the cookie and that's what you want.
So you want that little bit thinner than usual.
Now we want this glaze to set before we pipe on the eyes and mouth. So that will take around 10 minutes.
Now with your glaze set, pipe on your sweet little baby's face.
Just cut a small hole in a piping bag so you can make a big smile.
Repeat with all your other cookies until you have a nursery of happy babies.
This is the best part bringing everything together to make our bubble baby cupcakes.
To pipe your bubbles, it's really easy. I'm not going to show you any difficult techniques.
All you need are two round nozzles. One a little bit bigger than the other so you get
different size bubbles.
Simply go around the cupcake piping big circles.
You do not have to worry about being messy. Being messy will probably give you the best result.
Go back with your smaller nozzle and we're going to fill in the gaps.
Then just keep on piping bubble after bubble and it all builds up and
you can see this lovely little bed where we're going to put our cookies.
If your frosting has little peaks, don't worry. Just dip your finger in some water and just
push them down.
Then create more big and small bubbles on the rest of your cupcakes.
Now it's time to put your baby in the bath.
And top off it's little head with more bubbles.
I'm adding a few decorative pearls to give this guy an extra lift.
Now everyone can enjoy their own BIG & BOLD Bubble Baby Cupcake.
They're perfect for any baby shower or special occasion.
Congratulations Joy on the impending arrival of your baby girl. Don't forget to watch all
the other great videos in this playlist.
