Hi, I'm Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security.
The entire Department of Homeland Security extends its sympathy
for the devastation and loss of life in Haiti following Tuesday's earthquake.
A disaster that has called the world to action in response.
We're supporting this worldwide relief effort underway in every way we can.
The Coast Guard has sent significant air and sea assets to Haiti to conduct
damage assessments, help manage air traffic control and rescue people in
need of assistance. FEMA is working closely with the State Department and USAID (United States Agency for International Development) while
coordinating the deployment of state and local urban search and rescue
teams from across the country to help save lives. Customs and Border Protection
has provided aircraft to support response efforts and the entire
Department stands ready to receive evacuees safely and securely in the
United States. The Department will continue to support the people of Haiti
and others effected by this tragedy. And I encourage every American to
participate in this response effort by providing support to those in need
visit www.usaid.gov to make your monetary contribution.
