Charles Thacker: I'm Charles Thacker, I'm the chief technology officer for Farmington
Municipal Schools in Farmington, New Mexico. Looking at several vendors, Meru came out
on top, being able to provide us with the bandwidth, concurrency, as well as being able
to support 802.11b and g clients as well as n clients.
So with that deployment, we've been able to successfully roll this out. There were quantitative
savings, although I think one thing that doesn't get looked at often is the intangible that
we get from this. One of those intangibles is the positive PR. In our district and many
districts, we expect our technology to simply work. We have to have systems that simple
work. And Meru's been able to provide us something that just works. I don't have to spend a lot
of time troubleshooting it, fixing it, twiddling on the dials and making sure that everything's
running. I'm not hearing anything from users, and that's a good thing.
So instead of our network now being something of will it be up, will it be working, will
I be able to do my lessons today, it's simply taken for granted that it will work and it
is there.
