Part one. Original drawing pre-editing
Run Adobe Photoshop
Open the file with hull drawings
Choose “Move” tool
Set the cursor to the horizontal ruler
push and hold the left mouse button.
Position the cursor on the waterline and release the left mouse button.
The blue line shall appear at the waterline – the guideline.
Use the same operations to set another guideline at the center plan
Use the vertical ruler to set the guideline at the center plan
Zoom in the drawing to have better view of the guidelines and drawing lines.
You can now see that the center plan line is not vertical and has to be corrected.
Before doing this the black and white drawing should be transferred into grey scale.
Use the “Select” tool to select lines plan area which has to be corrected.
Choose the “Rotate” command and position the center of rotation below,
at the point where the guideline and the center plan line match together.
Next we rotate the drawing until the guideline and the center plan line match.
It can be seen that the waterline also fails to match the guideline.
Use “Skew” tool to correct this.
Cancel the selection of this area and check the sheer plan. Everything is fine here.
We go on to the breadth plan and there is misalignment of center plan line and guideline.
We use the same rotation tool as we did it previously.
Split the drawing into 3 separate plans.
Before we go further we have to reduce the contrast of the drawing.
Zoom in any part of the drawing to have the better control of the lines’ contrast change.
Choose “Levels” tool to reduce the contrast of black lines.
Use the “Select” tool to select sheer plan and copy it to clipboard.
Make a new file and name it “Sheer plan”
Paste the sheer plan from the clipboard.
Use the “Merge Down” command to merge the drawing with the background. Save the file.
Repeat the same operations for the remaining two plans.
That’s it, we now have all three plans ready for editing in Rhino.
Close Photoshop without saving the remaining files
