I'm curious about the play "Antione." What are the people saying about it?
There's no doubt about how great the storyline is, since it is a classic play. Producer Han
Tae-sook's interpretation of the play is very modern, in terms of story and staging, lighting
and costume design.
But this may have hindered the actors.
King Creon is cast as a greedy dictator, which is a little different from the original,...
and Shin Goo's portrayal was less than convincing.
That also goes for Kim Ho-jung's portrayal of Antigone.
In my opinion, the only actress that captivated the audience was the one who played Tiresias,
the blind prophet.
Does that mean we shouldn't see it?
Not at all. I'm not saying that the play was horrible, I'm just telling you about some
things that could have been better.
It's good to keep that in mind. And moving on, what else do you have for us?
And onto more plays, actress Son Suk is a living legend in the theater and she's celebrating
her 50th anniversary with a new role. I have the details for you right now.
Actress Son Suk is celebrating her 50th anniversary in the theater with another starring role
-- this time as an 80-year-old grandmother in the play "My Blissful Disappearance," which
is running at the Sanwoolim Theater in Hongdae until May 12th.
The play opens with Son standing on stage and yelling, angry at the world.
As a person with Alzheimer's, she fights a lonely battle, struggling to remember the
bits and pieces of her past, as the memories slowly disappear.
Even though she is distanced from her family and society, she still claims to be the heroine
of her life until the very end.
"Just because I don't say anything to the people who talk behind my back, saying that
I'm an Alzheimer's patient, doesn't mean that I don't know that they're saying it. I hear
everything."
Son started acting in 1963, after being mesmerized by a play she saw.
Since then, the 70-year-old appeared in more than 150 plays, becoming something of a living
legend in the theater community here.
But still, she says she's still hoping to prove to the audience, and herself, that she's
a good actor.
"I hope people will remember me as someone who tried her best on stage all the time...
and maybe as a sexy actress as well? Just kidding."
Her past 50 years as a passionate performer only make us more curious about what she will
bring us in the coming years.
