I am an NCC student
I am a student here at Northampton Community College.
I wanted to go back to school because I wanted to re-invent myself.
I was at a point in my life where I had to make a change.
I was tired of making excuses for myself. I was excited, I was eager to learn.
I knew I had the right mentality to learn.
I didn't have enough time, I didn’t have enough money. There was always some kind of
reason I was making for myself not to go back to school.
I went back to school to not only better my life, but to better my children as well.
Was I nervous, yeah, that question really hits home.
I was a bit apprehensive about coming back to school.
I completely worried about how well I would deal with my classes.
Especially math and science. I was just wondering if
I can still learn the way I did or better then when I was
younger. When I got here, all my concerns vanished. I got back
in the swing of things, ya know, the wheels start turning again.
It’s just like riding a bike. I was learning and keeping up with
everyone else in the class and as soon as I got my first exam
back, I knew that it was a go. You have to take the baby steps
to accomplish the big steps. I started coming at night so I was
in the environment where there were more students my age.
I didn’t just go full-fledge at the beginning. What happened
was, I started part-time The online courses make it so easy
for you to come back and to excel in any degree that you
are going for. Being a parent and working and being a student
is definitely a challenge. Some people can just do it on a whim.
For me, I had to plan my day. I had to say ok, this is my time
for this, this is my time for school, and you gotta, I had to
be strict with it. It was definitely something to get used
to, but they have a lot of seminars here and leadership
programs and time management classes that really help you to
kinda get things in perspective. Believe me, I used
those programs. As soon as I walked on campus, I didn’t feel
like I was the adult student on campus with a bunch of
traditional students. I felt like this was where I belong.
There are people there my age, um, even the youngsters are very
supportive, and we get together and everybody coaches everybody
and, um, it’s like we are doing this all together. That’s what
Northampton Community College is known for…it’s warmness and
it’s friendliness and it’s just a very comfortable place to be.
I’d say for any adult coming back to school, jump in! Do it,
do it now! Take it from me and just do it. It’s one of the
greatest experiences in my life. No matter how old you are,
there’s always new that you can learn and don’t ever be afraid
to expand your knowledge and share it with other people. It’s
never too late. People say that, it sounds like a cliché. It’s
the truth. Once you set your eyes on that goal, don’t look
back, keep going, moving forward. Once you get the ball
rolling, there’s no stopping you.
Before you know it, you’ll be at the finish line.
