OH what is FYSOP?
FYSOP is an awesome programs we have here at BU Community Service Center.
It's a wonderful, magical week where about 1,000 freshmen come together with 200 upperclassmen and
Get out to Boston know about the different areas and do community service
And to work with 11 issue areas
There's gender issues, animals, elderly, things like that and you do service projects surrounding it.
It's like a welcome to BU.
So it's a good opportunity for freshmen and it's a great opportunity for student leadership if
you're an upperclassmen and I know a lot of people have a lot of fun doing it.
My unique experience with FYSOP involves being a volunteer, staff, and a coordinator.
Three very different experiences all of which really shaped my time here at BU and had a profound impact
on my personal beliefs and personal growth.
Some include gender focus, homelessness and housing, hunger.
It's a great way to learn about your community around you and others.
The freshmen are put into small groups and then within that small group you create a small community.
Within that small community, you go out and learn about a specific issue area you get to serve within that issue area.
It's a great way to make an impact on the community you get to live for four years right
when you step on campus.
Well, I haven't thought about this question in so long.
It's funny because it has such a personal meaning to everyone, yet it's a really cool
way that we bring a lot of the freshmen class together before classes even start.
FYSOP is amazing and a fantastic experience and I couldn't encourage everyone more to do it.
