Mrs. Bunny’s Day Off Once upon a time, in a very swampy forest,
lived Mrs. Bunny in a small house with a tin roof. Mrs. Bunny worked at the carrot factory
and had to get up every day before the sun came
up to make her way through the forest to work many hours for her family. Her husband, Mr.
Bunny, also worked. He had a job in the big city and worked many hours as well.
One day at the factory, as she was sitting by her friend Peter Rabbit, she started thinking
about all the time she was missing with her little bunnies. She let out a sigh.
“Why are you so sad today Mrs. Bunny?” said Peter Rabbit.
“I just wish I had more time to spend with my family.” she said
“My days seem to run in to the next and I never get to sleep in because the bunnies
get up so early and the dog needs tending to and there
is never enough money to do anything, I don’t even
have time to watch a dramedy or anything….but now I sound like I feel sorry for myself.”
Peter Rabbit looked at her with sympathy in his eyes.
“Maybe you should go see the dragon that lives in the bayou; he is very wise and could
probably help you”.
“Maybe your right”, said Mrs. Bunny, “I’ll swing by there on my way home.”
After work Mrs. Bunny wandered through the bayou and picked blackberries on her way to
the dragon’s cave. She was a little frightened
by going into a dragon’s cave, but she heard he was
very friendly and gave out advice for a small token. She planned to give him the blackberries
she had picked.
All of a sudden, a pack of wild dogs scared Mrs. Bunny. She hid behind a tree until they
ran away and it was safe to continue her journey.
She found the cave just as the sun was setting and
she crept inside. “Who is that I hear coming in my cave?”
breathed the dragon. “It is just me, Mrs. Bunny, I heard you
give the wisest advice in the land and I need your help.”
“Well what did you bring me, Mrs. Bunny?” “I brought you some yummy blackberries that
I found on the path.” “Mmmm, I love blackberries!” he said,
“What can I help you with?” “I work all day, every day, and I never
see my family,” said Mrs. Bunny, “I feel like my life has
no joy.” “You need to Carpe Diem Mrs. Bunny; you
need to Seize the Day!” Stop and smell the roses
once in awhile and you’ll be much happier with your life.”
Mrs. Bunny thought for awhile and made a decision. “Thank you dragon” and she ran all the
way home. She burst into the house and said, “Garrett,
turn off that World of Warcraft and call your sister!”
“We are going on vacation!” “Call the dog sitter!”
Mr. and Mrs. Bunny took their bunnies to Ireland, where Mrs. Bunny’s family originated. As
the sun was setting over the hills, Mrs. Bunny’s
favorite song, Into the Mystic, could be heard drifting on the wind. She spent a lovely vacation
with her family and woke up whenever she felt like it.
