We are going to talk about how to stop nail biting forever. Nail biting also medically
known as Onychophagia is something that many people struggle with and if you kind of get
to the source of the problem typically it is a nervous habit and when I say that something
is a habit that means it is something that someone is doing without really thinking about
it. It is really a mindless effort that they are putting forth so most people that are
nail biting don't even realize or recognize that the nail biting is happening until of
course the damage is done. Now what you have to do to repair that damage is you have to
begin a new habit and the new habit is not biting the nails. One of the best products
on the market that I have found is a cherry plum extract product. You can get it on the
internet. There are many other products available. This particular product actually works just
by putting drops in your mouth like under your tongue four times a day so it is kind
of a homeopathic method. I have seen other products that are on the market that are paintable
where you would put them actually on the nails that need to be treated such as this one and
what would happen is they would have a bitter taste to them and it tends to remind them
when the hand goes right to the mouth that oh yea I'm not supposed to be doing this so
the mindless part of it becomes recognizable. You can begin to have a psychological connection
with what you are doing physically. When I say that it is a habit often times it has
been said by many leaders and psychological analysts that habits can only be created by
doing something repetitiously for 31 days so the recommendation that I use with my clients
is to use one of those types of products that will give you a nasty taste in your mouth
when the hand goes to the mouth for 31 days. This way it gives you the opportunity to psychologically
stop yourself and really make a conscious effort and that is just simply a reminder
to help you to remember oh I'm doing what I'm not supposed to be doing and if you make
that conscious effort and work towards it for 31 days in a row most people can conquer
the awful habit of nail biting.
