In this video
you will learn how to perform
the pinch twist, also known
as the ear twist.
A basic technique
in balloon twisting
used in many balloon sculptures
such as this balloon cat.
[balloon deflating]
The pinch twist is performed
on small bubbles
and is so named due to the pinching motion used
while performing the technique.
To perform the pinch twist
grab the bubble firmly
with your thumb and index finger
and pull the bubble away
from the adjacent bubbles to reduce
the friction.
Then turn the bubble
so the twists on either side
twist together.
As you can see,
the pinch twist is a one-bubble
lock twist and does
perform the same function.
From the appearance of the
completed pinch twist
comes it's nickname the "ear twist"
and is quite often used
as an ear in balloon sculpting.
Another use of the pinch twist
is to create a ninety degree turn
in a balloon and comes in handy
when a knee, elbow
or other joint is needed
in a balloon sculpture.
And that is how to perform
a pinch twist.
