I knew I was helping our community, our clients, my neighbours with something that was very
simple for me, but made such a difference in their lives because if they don't get that
Child Tax Benefit, or if they can't prove they've filed an income tax to get into housing,
then they're homeless. It's all I can do to do my monthly expenses, and they're tight,
so knowing that I come here and they're going to make sure I get a payment every month is
just a relief. It's a relief to be here. Sometimes like to go to other places to get your income
tax done it costs you just as much to file them so in the end it doesn't really put them
forward. This helps them get on their feet and any money they get back they get to use
to help themselves. When you get a professional person to help you and it isn't taken out
of your pocket, then that means a lot. That $50 every month or $20 or $30, whatever it
is, may make a difference on whether you eat that week or not. Being new here in Canada
it's really hard to know everything and it's complicated. It does make a difference in
our community because then you know they're not stressed. They're not, you know, maybe
they're coming to the food bank once every two months instead of every month, and that
sort of thing. Or maybe they don't need to access as many services now because they have
that little bit of extra income coming in. Very helpful.
