Hello this is Cardinal Wuerl, and I’d like to talk to you about the Tuition Assistance
Fund. All over this archdiocese, there are families who want to send their kids to our
Catholic schools and there are kids who want to go to our Catholic schools. The barrier
that sometimes prevents them is the simple reality of the cost. It costs a lot to run
a school and it costs a lot to run a Catholic school. That’s where the Tuition Assistance
Fund comes in. We’re able, thanks to the generosity of people all over this archdiocese
who contribute to the fund, we’re able to say to the families and to kids, “You can
come to our school. What we’ll do is you provide what you can of tuition and we’ll
try to the best of our ability to come up with tuition assistance that allows for you
to continue.” It’s a way, it’s a way of leveraging every penny we get to keep as
many kids in our schools as possible. This is a way of keeping Catholic education accessible
and affordable. This year $5,000,000 will be given out in tuition assistance, thanks
to you, thanks to all of those who are prepared to contribute to that fund. Now that sounds
like a lot of money. The need is $24,000,000 and going up. But the reason we have the fund
is because all of us now can contribute, we can do our part to see that across this archdiocese,
kids will continue to be able to go to a Catholic school, receive a Catholic education and move
into the future. And for that reason we are grateful. We’re grateful to you for your
support of the archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Fund, we’re grateful to God for the commitment
of all of those who support our schools to provide hope for the kids and a future for
them, and for the Church. God bless you and Thank you.
