The first thing we want to do is create our caricature. And to do this we're going to
take our black paper and we are going to draw a figure which will then later be cut out
and pasted on a stick. The shape that we chose to use should be something very identifiable.
Because we're going to be using the shadow of the image that we're going to be drawing
now. And the shadow is clear as the original image itself. So we want to have something
that you know, when the shadow hits the screen, we want something that's going to be very
identifiable and very clear. Distinct, identifiable object like a rabbit or a turtle or some type
of shape that people can easily see what it is. Now the image that we're making can either
be done free hand if you have the talent or you can take some type of figurine, a wooden
shape and you can lay it down on a black paper. And it can easily be traced. Because when
we cut it out we're only going to be using the outer, the outline of the object. You
don't have to make any details on the inside because it's only going to be used as a silhouette.
So you're not going to see any details on the flat side of the paper. Only the outer,
the outlines of the image. So you can easily just lay something down and trace around it.
Now it's important to use the black paper because that's going to show the best when
the light shines against it. It's going to create the darkest shadow. And we see here
that we made the shape of a rabbit. We're now going to cut around the edges and glue
it on to the end of a stick. And this will be how we make our silhouette puppet.
