I would prefer to call myself a 'string puppetist'.
Film is completely new for me.
I'm only a beginner.
Those, who see the film and know the puppet theater
will notice that all ideas, sounds and story originate from the world of theater.
It's very difficult to find people to work with - especially for no money.
At the moment there's no opportunity for me to work as a doctor in France.
That's why Roshanak bares the main responsibility for our family.
Thanks to her we are still in France.
I've been working with the shadow theater for over twenty years.
We adapt plays, or invent them ourselves.
Roshanak helps me control the puppets.
Above all, she helps stage the scenes to tell the story.
She has an eye for the construction and the function of scenes - the dynamic.
She brings experience from her time as a puppeteer and director for TV in Iran.
In Iran, I had my life very organised. That's the truth!
I said to myself: "When I'm 30, I'll be a director on television." - and I did it!
This is the last string puppet I worked with on TV in Iran.
When I was 30, I found a producer and pitched him a TV series.
He produced it.
Before leaving Iran I mastered my life very well.
But in my present situation it's impossible to tell
what will be in 5 years time.
Even what will be in 6 months time!
After 5 years trying to get started it's time to say, 'that's it'!
Life is short.
We have to start again somewhere else.
Otherwise we have to find our talent in another line of work.
It's enough! In 10 years I'll be going into retirement.
But jokes aside - I accept myself as a beginner.
Anyway, I need to find a more steady situation for my work!
I've always had this dream of my own little studio to work calmly...
For now it's only a dream.
I've been a professor for 30 years
and I have an eye for people who are talented at expressing themselves audio-visually.
The ability of speaking through the medium,
and understanding the interaction of the three elements: image, sound and editing.
That's what her film shows:
very personal writing. She puts a lot of herself into it.
It's very important to project oneself into a work.
That's how you reach the audience.
She understands this so well that I insisted she proceed with filmmaking!
Finishing studying and make films!
Life has showed me that those who discover they have talent
and can learn to bypass their blocades will always find a way to make a living out of it.
