(Drew) Previously on "Brother vs. Brother"...
(Jonathan) The teams tackled a four-day challenge with a twist.
Once the first two days are up, one member will be cut from both teams.
It's becoming a lot more cutthroat.
Tools--that's just a wimpy way.
Each competitor fought fiercely.
I will be very disappointed if it's boring.
I'm doing art.
The goal was to stand out...
I have very high standards.
...or risk going home.
Drew is really putting the pressure on.
A lot to do today.
At the end of Day 2, tough decisions were made.
Inez, I like your ideas, but I have to send you home today.
Christy, unfortunately, you're going home.
Thanks for working with us.
Now the teams are down to three versus three.
I'm Jonathan Scott, contractor and designer.
And I'm Drew Scott, real estate expert.
You know us as the "Property Brothers".
You are getting a lot of house for this place.
Whoa!
As identical twins, we're pretty competitive.
Anything he can do, I can do...only better.
Boom!
So welcome to the first "Brother vs. Brother" home renovation competition.
(man) Yes!
Throughout hardcore challenges, we'll coach teams of home improvement experts.
I don't think Drew is doing anything physical like this.
In the end...
Wow!
the teams' work will be judged by some of the top real estate experts in the country.
I have to say...fabulous.
What a difference.
That's what I like to hear.
The last person standing will win $50,000.
(all) Wow!
And ultimately... may the best brother win.
You actually look nervous.
This is Brother...
...vs. Brother.
♪♪

Good morning, everybody-- how ya doing?
Whoo!
Great.
Each team lost a member-- as you can see,
Christy has been sent home from Team Drew.
Yes.
And Team Jonathan lost Inez.
Now that Inez is gone, we have one less set of hands.
Things are much more stressful.
It's always sad seeing friends leave, but this is a competition,
and of the six of you here, only one of you will be
crowned champion of "Brother vs. Brother"
and take home $50,000.
[applause]
Yes.
I've got a feeling it's gonna be on this side.
[laughter]
Definitely on this side.
Both teams have three people left.
The hard thing is there are a lot less of you now
to handle the huge workload.
You have two days left and $25,000 to finish
the work here--you guys feel that you're up to the challenge?
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely.
Well, Team Jonathan, why don't we get at it right away and let these
guys get inside here.
(Mark) All right.
(Francis) Vamos.
Good luck, guys.
All right, wow.
Here we are, back again.
This house, it's kind of like a French cottage feel.
So overall, I think the space is nice--I know there's
potential to add value to this house,
but there's a lot of work to be done for three people.
Luckily, we all get along great,
and the other team is a team of misfits.
There is no way that team is gonna beat us.
Since you're working in here, I'll start in the laundry room
if you wanna help me in there.
Absolutely.
Now that Christy's gone, I'm going to take over the laundry room.
After Drew's harsh criticism, we know one of the biggest things
that we've gotta do is get stackables in there.
What do you think of that one?
I think he's gonna get us on the quality.
It's priced well.
So we decide on stackables.
The laundry room is small, so I'm gonna give them
an adequate sink, some counter space,
and somehow I'm gonna get some shelving in there.
I really feel like I have to prove myself,

I'm spearheading the kitchen-- I haven't done a kitchen yet,
so I am happy to take it on.
I like a really clean, modern take, so we need

just to bring in some more color and flavor
into the kitchen without it being overbearing.

for my team is the laundry area.

Open shelving and some hanging.

I mean, one thing I would even consider is taking these corbels out,
because they actually make the built-in look dated.
I think if it feels too traditional, then it looks like
we just slapped paint on an old kitchen.
Okay.
All right, so where should I help?
How about poppin' out the corbels?
All right, sounds good.
Have at it.

Even though we're down to three, my team still works well together.
We work better together than Jonathan's team.
If my team finishes this space the way
that I feel they should have it finished, we will win this challenge.

It's spacious, it's really nice, and I really like the layout.

Inez is gone, and she was in charge
of the kitchen.

The kitchen is in shambles.
I've already done a kitchen-- I'm taking over.
So we are going to completely renovate the kitchen
and purchase all new appliances,
but there is one problem.
[speaking slowly] There is no countertop.
[speaking normally] What do you think about Formica or melamine countertops?
These are almost million dollar homes,
and people who are buying a million dollar home,
they don't want to see a laminate countertop.
Find something that's a solution for the countertops,
and really get the flooring done.
Yep.
There's a lot of stuff that they need to get moving forward on.
Looking at the hardwood floors that Mark's putting in,
I like the way that they're flowing it all the way through,
it's gonna tie everything together.
He just has to be very careful that he stays on top of his game,
because he hasn't even laid a quarter of the flooring, and we only have two days left.
We're putting all new flooring in all the public spaces of the house.
It's 1,000 square feet of flooring in a very little amount of time,
but it's not going as quickly as planned.
Everything that Mark does is in slow mode.
I'm not sure why.
Well, aside from doing the fireplace, I'm gonna do the entryway,
because I'm just expanding my domination of the house.
The entryway was vinyl-- vinyl is for RVs,
trailer parks, and maybe tool sheds.
So I'm gonna put down some really large tiles,
which are gonna hide the unevenness of the space.
All right, that's good-- thank you, sir.
Yep.
This house is a French cottage with French style.
There's a lot of molding involved, there's a lot of woodwork--
very detail-oriented carpentry, so I think with some molding
and the right color combination, we can really add some pop
in that French feel.
The hearth needs tilework, so I decide to go with something more elegant
and get a traditional feel in there,
and then I decide to take a quick peek at the laundry room.
There's a lot of work to be done, so I'm a little bit worried
that maybe too much effort is being put into the living room,
but, you know what? They've gotta own their space.
The laundry room ends up falling pretty much completely on me.
There's doubt going in my mind-- I've never installed cabinets,
I've never installed a sink--
there's so many things that, like, I'm doing for the first time,
so I have doubts, but every time those doubts arise,
I just try to beat 'em out of my head,

I better start looking for cheaper appliances.
I have a ridiculous budget, but I need them to be beautiful,

I'm in a huge rush to get some appliances,
and I need them tomorrow.
By just spending a couple of hours online

Okay, no, that'd be amazing.
So I'm thrilled about it.
If anything will put us on the top,

and how better to already have a surface which you can chop, right?
Francis is taking ownership of the kitchen.
However, I want to go in and make sure he's making smart design decisions.
(Francis) You okay?
I hate the fact that we have so many wood grains in the kitchen!
Now we have two different wood cabinets, wood blocks,
wood crown molding, and multi-tone floors--
I'm just worried it's way too much wood, no?
I don't like the tone, I don't like this inquiry--
Mark and I are definitely clashing.
Mark is in the kitchen fighting with Francis,
so I need to get on those floors if they're ever gonna get done in this decade.
I don't want to work with you-- I don't like your energy.
You come and take over a project.

Row after row after row after row--I'm flyin'!
But you're not necessarily my boss either, Francis.
So I have-- I have good ideas, as well,
So why are you-- so why are you bossing me?

There is a difference listening, and there is a different thing

and not take "No" for an answer.
Correct.
Our energies are just not compatible,

Um...
Mark starts a new project-- this is crazy.
Nothing is finished.
This looks so cheap to me.
Wow!
On the other hand, an absolute disaster over there.
Oh-ho! We have floors!
I like it!
Yes, we do.
And we have tile in the front entrance.
Yes, we do.
I like the fact that Torche is able to jump in,
and she's effective at whatever she's working on,
however, I'm concerned that Mark is not installing the floors quicker.
I guess I'm really hoping
we can get the floors going pretty quick.
There's a pretty obvious change in the dynamic of the team now.
What's happening that I'm not seeing?
Well, I think Mark and I...
we just...just... are like...vvvt!
He doesn't want to hear my ideas, and sometimes I think his ideas are ca ca.
You all have your strengths, and you all have your weaknesses.
Keep plugging away, you know, and not get at each other's throats,
because this time tomorrow, it's all done.
There is obviously tension on the team--it concerns me a little.
They've gotta start working together, because I would just love
to beat Drew so badly.
Hey! How ya doin'?
Yo! What's happenin'?
Not too much--you're makin' some headway.
I did--got the hearth down.
Tile, nice choice--this is a little more brown than what I thought it was gonna be,
Right.
I thought it was gonna be grays, but I mean, it's nice.

You don't want everything to be white and gray, yeah?

You guys see how cocky Jonathan's being--he won the last challenge.
His whole team, they think they're gonna win this one again.
I want to make sure we destroy them.
I wanna win this--I wanna win the entire competition.
Good job, good job.
Thanks, man.
Sir.
It is the last day-- time is tickin' down,
and we're not getting along.
I'm gonna keep going at the floors.
I'm gonna continue with the backsplash so that's out of the way.
All right-- let's rock and roll!
All right, let's do this.
(Mark) One more day, one more day.
The backsplash--Inez did just one wall,
so I have to do an entire other wall.
Because this tile doesn't have a finished edge, as you can see,
I'm gonna take it all the way to the edge so that the end of it hides.
I'm all the way in the kitchen now with my flooring,
and Francis is still ticking along on that backsplash.
I don't understand what's taking so long, and I'm starting to worry.
I have about 50 tiles.
(Torche) How long does it take you to cut one tile?
A minute.
So fif--an hour.
Yeah, but you also need to adhesive.
There's so much to do-- these boys aren't going as fast as I would like them to.
I have to cut every single piece.
Every single piece needs cutting.
It's hours.
You're stressin' me out!
This has been a really tough challenge, a really tough few days.
So I'm physically exhausted.
I'm putting the paint up in the laundry room--
I chose a darker color-- the darker color with the light cabinets
does give a really nice contrast.
I think the laundry room certainly looks better than before,
but there's a lot, a lot of work to be done.
The kitchen is coming along beautifully.
I'm going with a light, blue-gray quartz concrete countertop.
Hard surface countertops add such elegance--
just clean, classic looking.
That's the look of concrete-- that is stunning.
I'm giving the fireplace a nice makeover--
a little accent without going crazy.
Drew has made it clear
that detail is key,
so I am so hyper-focused.
Good mornin'! You look like you're pretty close to done here.
Yeah, I've got a couple touchups left, and then I'm gonna jump in
the kitchen and start helping Brett with the backsplash.
This is Day 4, there's not a lot of time to finish up,
but my team, they always keep a cool head,
they just keep working away until the very end, and that's a great thing.
Howdy, howdy!
What's up, Drew?
So this is still a little behind.
I'm catchin' up.
Are you a little nervous that you've taken on this room here
and that it's further behind than the rest of the space?
Yeah, I'm really nervous, yeah.
What do I need to do to stay off the chopping block?
The decision to not go with a stackable-- that was not a good choice.
Mmhm.
However, we had time to correct that-- let's just make sure
we get this place looking amazing, and that there's no way
Okay.
Jonathan's team can beat us, because I don't want any of you guys to go home.
Okay.
(Drew) There's a lot of work to do in our house--
we just have to finish and finish it to a top quality, so I'm gonna give 'em a hand,
because I don't want to lose to Jonathan.
Knock, knock.
Hey!
So I'm mid-project in my living room, and Jonathan walks in.
What's going on? Oh, wow.
You beat him to the punch.
Oh, I like it! I really like it.
And I know that their house probably isn't as great as this,
so I know that's gonna get back to the other team.
Nice job-- whose idea was that?
Mine.
Very, very nice job-- I have something to fear. [laughs]
I love all the detail that David did.
That living room... it's kickin' butt.
What's happenin'?
What's going on?
Well, you happen to see me doing a little bit of work.
You have no paint on you, which means you're not working very hard.
You guys have tiled.
What do you think of the place? Yeah, tiling is done.
It's okay-- no, it's all right.
Get out of here-- come on, it looks good.
I think the front room looks really good.
Aside from that, the laundry area is one of our big tasks.
So, they've decided to get the stackable in here,
and they're also gonna do a storage solution over on this wall.
Drew's property-- it looks really good.
I may look confident, but inside I'm actually kinda worried.
I can tell you this much-- I hope your team is spending
as much time on the quality work that my team is doing,
because this place is gonna look good.
All I can say is, I know that we're patching our holes before
we paint the walls-- just sayin'. [laughs]
All right, on a scale of 1 to 10, where would you rate us?
Well, especially seeing this room, I'd say like an 8...
fortunately, Team Jonathan's a 9, at least I hope it is-- let's take a look.
Oh, yeah, I'll be the judge of that--I'm gonna go check out their place.
See you in a bit.
Let me know, all right.
I really hope my team's made some progress,
because after seeing Drew's place, we need to step it up.
(Mark) Hey, Jonathan!
Hey, hey! I brought a little bit
Hello!
of company to get a sneak peek.
Hello, Drew, how are you?
Not too bad--so this is lookin'
a little better than the last time I saw it.
It's lookin' a lot better.
You actually have some floors in here.
We do--we have a lot of floors in here.
This morning, I would've said, "Yes, we're gonna win this challenge hands down,"
but the flooring that they've chosen is very nice--
it's definitely gonna add a lot of value.
It kinda makes me a little nervous.
Step in here, I'll show you the fireplace.
So you guys decided to keep the original tile around the surround.
This is actually a feature, so if we were to tear that out,
it would actually depreciate the value of the property.
Yeah, it's a lot of brown... so I'm sure you guys are gonna tone it down.
I'm upset--I want to throw my hammer at Drew.
I think my fireplace looks great.
It's my style, my piece, and something original and unique.
And then how about the kitchen?
I wanna see what you're doin' in this kitchen.
We're doing a nice contrast here-- so we're doing
light countertops around the outside.
I'm surprised they just have a butcher block.
With all the dark wood tones in there, I think that might be
a little overpowering, so that could be their downfall.
(Drew) How are you guys feelin'?
You have to be done by the end of the day-- you think you're gonna finish?
Yes, absolutely we're gonna finish.
We're gonna finish.
There's a lot of work to be done yet, but I think we are ahead of the game.
(Drew) Their team really seems to be in a divide.
I don't know what's happening there--they just don't have a great vibe like my team has.
I'm gonna get out of your hair-- I'll see you guys
later on--hopefully we win the challenge
and I stay at three, you guys are down to two--bye!
He knows how to feel
unwelcome in a space, that's for sure.
Yes!
We're at that scary moment right now--there's a lot still to do.
I wouldn't say we're ahead of schedule, but we're okay
if we keep pushin'.
(Mark) We've gotta keep--yeah.
Well, I will hop in and help you guys for a bit, so where do you want me first?
Help you in the kitchen?
Do you want to cut standing still? Yeah, go for it.
Sure, I can help you in here, absolutely.
The tension on our team is horrific.
Torche and Francis aren't even speaking to me at this point in time,
and Jonathan's gonna realize that.
We are a loud team,
and now we are a quiet team.
We are a really quiet team.
That's pretty clean.
It's, uh, real bad.
It's almost unbreathable in there.
It's no secret to me-- they're really putting up with each other, I feel,
more than they are completely embracing each other.
Coming up...
Drew's over my shoulder-- I'm losing it.
In the last hour, we shouldn't be tiling the backsplash.
Oh my gosh.
This--turn it this way.
We've had $25,000 and four days to complete this challenge.
Now that there's three of us, each one of us
wants to show a little bit more originality,
so in place of just doing
plain white subway tiles on the backsplash,
I'm gonna remove one of the subway tiles and put in
some stone and glass mosaic, just to make it pop.
I have never tiled a backsplash before.
Thankfully, Dave has finished his living room,
and he has decided to help me.
I think Brett might've gotten a little over-confident.
We have hours left, he's never done a backsplash before...
at the end of the day, if it's not finished,
the best idea in the world is not gonna raise value on this house.
So here's the sink top...
We've put the stackables in-- I'm going to add a small counter
and a functional, large sink,
but nothing is finished, and I'm freakin' out.
I still have to get my shelving up so that we actually have extra storage.
I've gotta get the sink in-- it's a hot mess, still.
Look at that! Look at that!
This flooring has the single largest impact on home value
more than anything else we're doing.
However, by choosing flooring, there's not really a chance
for me to make design decisions,
so I decide to create a light cove in the kitchen.
It was very closed off, so this is gonna provide some ambient light
and hopefully give some height to what is a relatively low ceiling.
Put this in there, nail it to the nailer,
want our rope lighting inside, and that's gonna create light
the whole way around the border.
I really wanna show Jonathan what I'm capable of doing
when I put my design stamp on it.
[saw whirring]
(Francis) Ladies and gentlemen!
A two-hour call time
before the hammers are down!
Two hours before the day ends,
Mark starts a new project
instead of finishing what's already there.
I mean, this is crazy.
(bleep), we have less than two hours.
Um...
At this point, we're runnin' out of time--
the floor's not completed, the kitchen's a mess,
and I'm just worried.
The backsplash-- it's time consuming.
The minutes are going by, and now hours have gone by,
and I have a good 8 feet of backsplash to install.
This is a huge problem.
My team has very little time left to finish this challenge,
so I'm gonna get in there and help them with whatever I can to make sure
that we finish this job and we finish it right.
Brett, how's it going?
It's going.
I now see stress in your eyes-- earlier you guys all looked so relaxed.
Yeah, well that was pre- the backsplash
getting in at the absolute last hour.
At this point, we shouldn't be tiling the backsplash.
We have to manage our time better.
My concern is we are here with literally an hour left,
and there are a lot of little things to do.
Do everything you can-- keep at it.
Okay.
I'm working frantically on the laundry room.
I am trying to get shelves up.
After spending all that extra money on stackables,
we didn't have enough money to buy the really high end shelving.
Since we were running tight on budget, you know,
I spent maybe, you know, $80 on this solution.
I mean, I'm not trying to rip everything that you do apart,
Yeah.
but this looks so cheap to me-- it looks like it was hung uneven.
There's still a lot of work to do here, okay,
I know, I know.
so I'm gonna come in here and help you.
I'm trying my best to impress Drew,
but I can tell Drew is upset, so I'm nervous.
Here, why don't I-- I'll do that.
Okay.
I'll stick the handles on-- I wanna make sure we get this done.
Wow! You guys are actually pullin' it off.
I'm just pushing to get that floor done--
it's looking really amazing.
Torche is flying with these floors.
She's like Concord-Paris-New York
in 4 hours--it's outstanding.
Jonathan just jumped in helping me finish the flooring.
We have all hands in the kitchen-- we have to win.
I'm trying to finish the backsplash.
I'm freaking out-- how is this gonna happen?
Okay, count your tiles below your pattern.
Ugh.
Drew caught that I only had gone three subway tiles up
when it's supposed to be four.
Oh my gosh, I'm glad you caught that.
I'm losing it-- I'm trying desperately
to keep it in because Drew's over my shoulder.
(David) We're gettin' down to the wire.
This is absolute madness-- we have to beat Team Jonathan.
Fifteen minutes!
There is stuff flying everywhere-- tension's high.
I don't wanna go home, I don't wanna lose the competition.
If we don't win, it's gonna get ugly.
It's gonna get real ugly.
Okay, ten...
Orchid, no orchid?
nine...you need something.
Seven...six...
Bring it in!
(Drew and Jonathan) Five...four...
three...two...one.
That's it! Let's go guys, that's it.
I can see that you guys aren't happy-- there are things
we could've done a little bit better, but we have added a lot of value.
It's up to the judges whether we've added enough to beat out Jonathan's house.
Bring it in, give me a hug.
(Drew) Good job, team.
Go behind the scenes of "Brother vs. Brother"
at hgtv.com/brothers.
Beautiful day for Team Jonathan.
I am confident on the inside and the outside.
My team has done a great job-- we are not losing two in a row.
Eh...
(Drew) Hey, David, Hilary, good to see ya!
Hey, good to see you, too.
How are you guys doin'?
Judging our teams' houses today are the hosts of the hit show "Love It or List It",
Hilary Farr, an internationally known interior designer,
and David Visentin, a world class real estate expert.
So are you excited to see what they've come up with?
I've got pretty high expectations.
Shall we check it out?
Sure.
All right, let's go.
Wow!
(Drew) This whole room was the same sort of beige tone-- it was very boring.
Now the room shines with different colors on the walls,
new moldings, and a revamped fireplace.
I have to say--fabulous.
I love taking this chair-rail along.
You've managed with your moldings to have absolutely maximized the height here.
Stunning!
Now, what do you think about the fireplace?
(David V.) They did a beautiful job,
and I think you need to, because it is the focal point in the room.
Maybe it would've been nice to have more than just one log.
(Drew) We didn't have the 30 cents that they needed for a second log.
(Hilary) Ahhh--the money was spent leveling that hearth off and making it look substantial.
That sounds like it's adding dollar signs--right, right?
Absolutely!
Nervous?
No, no.
Wow!
As you know from before, this kitchen looked very dated and dingy.
Now we have modern countertops, backsplash, new appliances,
and tile flooring.
You've repositioned everything and maximized the space.
You now have counter space where you really didn't have any before.
Yeah.
(David V.) I don't wanna be a downer, but I really wish they had gone
and put the ceramics down on this floor, too.
They had to take the cost of what these tiles would've been
and spend it on the laundry area.
Drew, you and I know that kitchens sell homes,
Yeah.
not very many laundry rooms.
But Brett took on the windows-- they have new panes.
Yeah.
That old, frosted window really matched the old countertop.
(Hilary) But I love the fact that you put clearer panes
in there--it just opens the whole place up,
and I love the backsplash, however, I do have an issue
with a lot of unfinished tile in the backsplash.
You don't leave an unfinished edge, you just do not do that.
The devil is in the details, because the moment a buyer sees something like that,
they start to look for other deficiencies.
Check out this laundry room!
(Hilary and David V.) Let's go.
If you remember, the fridge was pushed back to about here,
and then they had a cabinet on top of that.
You couldn't even get in to your washer-dryer, and the sink was tiny.
Now, there's a stackable washer-dryer, which frees up space
for a bigger sink and even some countertop space.
(David V.) I think this is definitely more functional.
The use of space is great-- I think it's terrific
that you went for stackable washer-dryer.
(David V.) Absolutely, they add value.
On the other hand, I have to say that--
absolute disaster over there where the sink is.
You've gotta have a backsplash, because all of the water is gonna go down
underneath that Formica, and that's gonna be garbage in a few years.
And here's another thing.
Those are horrible.
So this is ridiculous-- and when you do something like this, the problem is
you draw the attention to the fact that clearly there's a storage issue
in this little laundry room.
Yeah, they failed on this one.
Yeah, badly, badly, badly.
Well, you've seen my house, the best is down, now you have Jonathan's.
[laughs]
Well, I believe it's the best for last, that's what we say.
All right, let's do it.
Drastic change.
My God, these floors are stunning!
They are amazing.
Before, if you remember, this is where the old foundation was for the original fireplace,
because this was a duplex, and now there's brand-new hardwood flooring throughout.
What a difference!
It gives it a slightly modern vibe with
that mid-century look-- that's a good choice.
I mean, this just pulls everything together, and yet you get a great sense of space.
And then in here, if you look at this feature.
This was a fireplace that had been done by the Batchelder Tile Company,
and it's a big feature that people in this area look for,
so we did not want to tear that out.
Also, the hearth was replaced, and Torche added the reclaimed wood feature.
I understand retaining the tile, but the choice of wood...
it just sort of is this big block
of blackish wood on the wall.
This is a missed opportunity to be something interesting.
Yeah.
Why don't we pop into the dining room and look at that space.
Hm.
If you remember from before, this room was very plain and uninviting.
And now, the new wall color creates a dramatic tone in the space.
What's the story with this artwork?
I actually like that piece-- I think you look at the pillows
that they've got over there, they're tying it in, obviously.
I mean, I don't mind that piece, it's linear, it's great colors,
but I'm not sure about the matchy-matchiness here.
Francis was able to pull this artwork off in about an hour,
and it was something that he did...yeah.
(Hilary and David V.) That's pretty impressive.
Yeah, I mean obviously that's not adding hard value to the house,
and too many wood tones.
Look at this table-- there's nothing on it.
It's very stark, it's very stark in the wrong way.
I'm actually interested to see what you think of the kitchen space,
because I think mine's a lot better.
[Hilary laughs]
Before, this kitchen had old linoleum flooring
and a faux skylight.
Now we have a raised coffered ceiling with a fixture,
hardwood floors, a new island, backsplash and countertops.
Well, wow--I mean,
it's a huge, huge change.
Huge change.
What an upgrade-- huge upgrade.
All right, all right, I've heard a lot of huges, I want to hear some negatives.
Okay, well let me tell you about the positives--
first of all, I love this, I mean this was an eyesore,
and you've turned it into a positive.
Your appliances are gorgeous, but it's too much wood.
We've got wood floors, we've got wood block here,
backsplash--backsplash has nothing to do with the countertops.
I think that this and the backsplashes has let this kitchen down.
And just in case you were thinking from all this negative
that it didn't add any value, it did add value.
Phew!
Well, I mean, you've seen my house,
you've seen Jonathan's house... what are you thinkin'?
We just have a lot of numbers to run to figure this out.
Okay, sounds good.
We'll let you know.
We'll catch up with you later on.
See you later.
Yeah, you have a kitchen, but I have way more hardwood floor everywhere.
Yeah, but I have a new laundry space.
I know you don't like to do laundry or shower, but people like this.
Huh, I don't know, I'm feeling good.
It adds value.
Coming up...
I am not convinced
that those were the right way to go.
This could absolutely cost our team the win.
Here's a renovation comparison brought to you by autotrader.com.
On "Brother vs. Brother", there are many ways to increase property value.
A stainless steel backsplash can create a clean and modern makeover,
and a mosaic accent can elevate a backsplash
from dull to dazzling.
A side-by-side comparison shows how both can really increase the value of a home,
but which adds more to the bottom line?

Evening!
Good evening.
Our boss is here.
How do you feel?
Good.
Great.
Yeah, I walked through both properties with Drew and with the judges.
The floors have made a bold change to this property.
That being said, it's gonna come down
to what the judges say are the hard improvements
to the actual house itself.
Hey, how are you?
Hi, hi.
I want to introduce you to David Visentin and Hilary Farr with "Love It or List It".
David is a renowned realtor, and of course, Hilary is one of the best designers
in the biz, so I will turn it over to you.
It's pretty impressive what you guys managed to pull off.
You've got these floors, which are magnificent.
With these floors throughout, you really have added flow,
and that always, always, always adds value.
Let's talk about the fireplace.
I am not convinced that those
burnt timbers were the right way to go,
and it was a little bit stark.
I'm pretty bummed-- it was an area that I really
had a chance to, like, do something custom.
So now I'm worried--
this could absolutely cost our team the win.
Then we go on into that dining room.
The piece of art-- the colors are terrific,
it makes it interesting, but then you have
this table there with just nothing on it, just stark,
and that comes back to the staging elements.
As a designer, I like clean surfaces,
not as clean to turn you off.
I barely had time to grout my backsplash.
But let's go to the kitchen.
The impact, to me, when I walked in there, first of all,
was, "Wow, that's an incredible upgrade,"
followed by, "Wow, that's a lot of wood."
(Hilary) So, we did crunch the numbers.
We started out prior to the renovation
saying it was worth $710,000.
With the renovation that you did,
the value is now...
$752,000.
Wow, that's pretty good for four days' work.
That is $42,000 of added value.
The question is, was it enough?
I feel very good, and yet I am praying
that Drew's team has failed completely.
Hey, guys!
Hey, Drew.
Come on in and grab a seat.
Overall, you really did a great job.
We did a lot, but it's up to our judges, who are here.
Guys, I would like to introduce you
to Hilary Farr and David Visentin.
We've worked together a lot in the past,
and I trust their opinion.
I love the room that we're standing in, I love the fact
that these moldings were added-- they've maximized
these fabulous high ceilings.
Fireplace--important focal point, I think you made great choices there.
And as a realtor, I know, that the room you walk into first
is extremely important, it really does set the tone.
(Hilary) And then the kitchen-- you created counter space when there wasn't any.
The counters themselves are fabulous, but...
backsplash, I little bit wobbly on some of the workmanship in there,
so that was a bit of a disappointment, I have to say.
And then I think the laundry room was a very important element
to making this house function, but it could've been better.
Backsplashes around sinks are essential.
Now, the value before the renovation
was $845,000.
The fact is that you have added value to this house.
So the real question is whether that is, in fact, enough.
Now, the value before the renovation
was $845,000.
So the real question is whether all of those changes
that you've made to this property are, in fact, enough.
It is crucial that we beat Team Jonathan.
If we win, we go into this next challenge three people strong
and more equipped to win again.
Well, the answer to that is...
Yes, it was!
Whoo!
Good job, guys.
Monica, get in here-- you guys worked hard, you deserve it.
I'm really happy.
Thank you.
I mean, you have done so much for this family.
Thank you, Drew-- you certainly helped us.
So, Hilary and I were very impressed
with the changes you guys were able to make.
The value is now $895,000.
(Drew) $50,000.
Very impressive--$50,000, and it was a very, very close call.
Team Jonathan added $42,000 to their house.
Wow.
Wow, that was so close!
Well, good luck, guys, the rest of the way.
And thank you, Hilary and David.
It was an absolute pleasure, it really was.
It was an absolute pleasure.
[exhales loudly]
[laughter]
It means so much to me how well you work together.
Even though you're now down to three people,
you still were supporting each other, so good job to you guys.
Feels great to win, but we know somebody's gotta go from Team Jonathan,
and I'm wondering what's gonna happen.
The question is, was it enough?
No, no it wasn't enough.
Well, thank you very much, guys, I appreciate you coming in,
and now I have the tough task of letting one of these three go.
I just don't believe it-- we added so much value to that house.
I'm really disappointed.
You guys have had some challenges working together as a team,
and I hate to see that, because I really want
to beat Team Drew,
and it's never gonna happen if we're all on individual teams
and if we're fighting with each other,
and if we're trying to throw each other under the bus.
Any of that stuff's not gonna work-- we have to work together,
and, to be honest, I'm a little ticked off.
One of you is going home right now, and I don't think any of you are safe tonight.
One of you is going home right now, and I don't think any of you are safe tonight.
I'm really worried about where I stand at this point in time,
and it's very unnerving-- I do not want to go home.
Mark, you can come off a little bit bossy.
You were butting heads a little bit of the time with some people.
I want to say, first of all, that I'm quite surprised.
I didn't do anything that was in any way hurtful,
and everything that the judges pointed out having
the most hard value, were things that I did.
It's not true.
Hearing Hilary's feedback,
she mentioned all of my design decisions,
so in that aspect, you have a very strong designer on your team,
and because of the art, you actually kept me here.
Yes, the artwork-- it's beautiful, it makes a statement,
but the challenge here is raising the value of these homes,
like the floor-- I thought that this floor
would be enough to put us right over the top,
but Mark, I was a little disappointed that you couldn't go faster on the floors.
We all wish it would've gone faster, but I hope
you realize how difficult it is to lay a wood floor on a concrete patch.
Yes, Torche did move quicker than I did,
but that's only because I laid the foundation for that to even be possible.
I know for a fact that if Torche would've started here,
it would've been an absolute nightmare.
Because I've done so many floors, I know how difficult that was.
I'm feeling frustrated, because Mark has no ownership of the floor.
He was slow, slow, slow.
Not only did I, you know, do the fireplace,
but laid the majority of this floor, the entryway,
helping with trim, painting the room.
When you got on these floors, you rocked it,
but actually, the judges said that this whole fireplace feature
was a waste of time.
I'm sad that they didn't like that.
I was hoping to, um, bring it together better.
I worked as hard as I could.
Now, Francis--you took on the kitchen, the most valuable room in the house,
and it ended up being a wash of wood.
It was not done to the standard of what I would've liked.
It's not an easy decision for me to make,
but I want to make this team strong moving forward.
I definitely feel the pressure rising.
For the first time, it could go either way.
I don't know what Jonathan is going to say.
Francis...you're going home.
All right, guys.
I'm sorry, Francis-- I really am.
It is what it is.
Thanks, babe.
It's really nice to meet you, huh?
It was very nice to meet you.
I'm sad and disappointed.
Somebody has to go home, but Jonathan,
he wants to have a winning team,
and apparently, I was not the right ingredient.
We just kicked the most creative person off the team,
so you guys are gonna have to pick it up.
Rest up, and I want us to approach this thing
with a clean slate, all right?
Have a good night.
Thanks, Jonathan.
Hey, hey, how are you?
Annoyed, because these guys spend
half their time arguing with each other,
but now we have a team that may actually work together.
Well, hopefully they will-- I mean, my team,
that's the one thing they've been doing great the entire time.
It's a hard thing, but this is a competition.
Yep, so three against two.
It's a tough choice, but I think you made the right choice.
Oh my God, look at this, Rachel!
Whoa! Look at this! This is amazing!
Oh my God.
[laughing]
This looks awesome! Oh my gosh!
Beautiful.
Oh my gosh, look!
Look at this laundry room, wow!
Plenty of storage, you can get to the sink, actually--this is great.
Wow, oh, my God, this is awesome.
Oh my God!
An island.
And look at the backsplash.
Yeah, my gosh, I love everything.
That's completely, just, amazing.
We started out with 10 contestants,
but now we're down to only five--three against two.
I'm a little concerned, because I think we do play it too safe.
Brett and Monica are really strong-willed.
To beat the other team, it has to be finished.
This is the most concerned I've been to date.
The pressure is definitely mounting.
Mark and I are just gonna work harder,
but I'm coming down with something.
We are so far behind.
