SRED iQ is the culmination of a
desire to foster innovation, productivity and economic competitiveness in
Canada.
The importance of this endeavour
is paramount as companies in Canada are falling behind competitively. While the
reasons for our lack of economic competitiveness are complex, much of it stems
from our inability to overcome inefficiency.
When inefficiency takes root,
like a plant, it will suck resources to meet the demand of business leaving
less time to progress technologically.
Untreated, inefficiency will poison
the culture of an organization whereby employees along with their inherent
knowledge will leave. Soon profitability will disappear, earnings will evaporate
and lost are any opportunities to invest such monies to enhance productivity
and improve or develop innovative products and services.
Inefficiency is at the centre of
many problems plaguing Canadian industry and it is often fraught with technical
obstacles. Many of these obstacles are beyond the routine development efforts
of many companies and can only be resolved through a prescription of
experimentation and analysis.
Experimental development takes
time and is fraught with uncertainty. Fortunately, the Canadian federal
government recognizes this and the reason the Scientific Research and
Experimental Development (SRED) tax incentive program was created.
This program provides refunds or
tax credits to Canadian companies that conduct experimental development to resolve
technical obstacles and advance technology.
The SR&ED program provides
the necessary funds needed to free up resources so Canadian companies can
perform the work required to improve productivity and become economically
competitive. While many companies take advantage of this program, there are
many more that could benefit.
SRED iQ is designed to promote
innovation, technological advancement and economic competitiveness in Canada.
It will facilitate the exchange
of information and knowledge in Scientific Research and Experimental
Development (SR&ED) in support of this purpose.
We trust you will find SRED iQ a
valuable resource in all matters related to Scientific Research and
Experimental Development. Membership is free. We also look forward to your suggestions
to improve the site and content submissions that would be of interest to other
members.
