Hi! I’m Lisa Krone and I’m here with Best Epicurean on behalf of expertvillage.com.
Today we are going to be talking about the right size portions for adult meals. A lot
of times in America now they are talking a lot about obesity and things like that because
our meal portions are way too big. I am going to show you the best size portions that you
can use for adults. So here I’ve made a little bit of pasta with Parmesan and garlic
and I mixed it up with just a little bit of butter just to move it around. One of the
things I did before hand was I micro waved my pasta after I made it so it was nice and
hot so when the butter was put on the stove, it melted very quickly, so I didn’t have
to use as much butter. So here I have a normal dinner plate that you would find in any home
and what I will do is I will fill about half the plate like that and now I need some color
on there so I am either going to add a fruit or a vegetable. It just so happens that this
time of the year we are so lucky that we have pomegranate so we spent some time de-seeding
the pomegranate and what I like to do, you can even serve this with a little bit of bread
or toast, I like to add a little bit of color. Pomegranates have a lot of great vitamins
such as vitamin C, things like that and I am going to put it on this half of the plate.
So now when I am going to serve this dish, I’ve added all these pomegranates which
are going to provide not only a little color with your food but it is also going to provide
a lot of vitamins and iron that you are not going to get from your pasta. This would be
the perfect meal that I would give to somebody. If I wanted to make another meal, I would
go and grab another plate here in my group of plates, I made a small pizza out of a little
bit of dough so we’ve cut down our dough and my dough is a very very thin crust and
what I’ve done is cut it up, you can cut it into quarters and I have a little bit of
Waldorf salad right here. Waldorf salad consists of nuts, celery, apples and mayonnaise. All
I’m going to do is spoon that out. I don’t want to get that on my pizza so I can move
my pizza just like that, kind of make funny designs with it if I want, put my Waldorf
salad and I only had a tiny tiny bit left, arrange it on my plate so my body thinks it
is a full plate of food and put that out. That is how you make food portions for adults.
