HomeAway Summit 2013 Joel Rasmussen interviews Matt Landau about VR analytics
Joel Rasmussen: Hey Community, you all know this guy. I'm here with Matt Landau of VReap.
Matt, welcome to Summit 2013.
Matt Landau: Thank you for having me.
Joel Rasmussen: So, what were you talking about today? That was a well-attended session.
There was a lot of excitement. Tell me a little bit.
Matt Landau: It was bursting at the scenes.
Joel Rasmussen: I was there.
Matt Landau: Our talk was about getting analytical, more specifically really focusing on metrics
that allow people to perform a little bit better. And the over-arching theme was embracing
this process of improving with your bookings. A lot of people look at it as a chore but
really when you start improving like legitimately starting making more money, it becomes something
about of genuine pastime. For me and Marty who presented we really enjoyed ourselves
doing that.
Joel Rasmussen: You guys did a great job. Tell me why analytics are important. If I'm
running a vacation rental and I'm kinda booked and, you know, things are moving along, why
I would want to spend the time and energy to really look deeply and how I'm converting
and, you know, how my money that I'm spending is actually returning to me?
Matt Landau: Yeah, it's a great question and a lot of people just like to eyeball it you
know. They think, I got a couple of listings here, I got a couple of bookings there but
until you are really measuring precisely what's giving you a return on your investment, it's
almost like you're spending blindly. And so our philosophy is that you really need to
know exactly where you are putting money and your time because all of us are pressed for
all those things. If you really want to maximize the time you are spending, identifying each
of the metrics is probably the most important thing to do.
Joel Rasmussen: I couldn't agree more. So, for the folks who were unable to come to Arizona,
to beautiful Scottsdale, if they want to find out more about what you guys were talking
about or maybe read some of your stuff, where should they go? Where would you send them?
Matt Landau: Nightly News. I would say, check out our website VRLeap.com and the vacation
rental marketing blog, which is long yet very original URL, vacationrentalmarketingblog.com.
Joel Rasmussen: Thanks Matt.
Voiceover: Don't forget to visit my blog, joelrasmussen.com. You'll find more information
about my book, Vacation Rental Success Volume I, which recently shot to number one on the
Amazon "hot new releases" list, as well as regular updates and interviews from some of
the smartest people in our industry like Matt Landau. Thanks for watching.
