Hi, this is Andy with Sierra Trading Post
and today we're talking about waterproof jackets
and their ratings. By the end of this video, you'll know what to look for in a waterproof jacket.
so I took this jacket under the waterfall to test it out. It's got a twenty
thousand millimeter rating.
And as you can see the water beaded up on it quite nicely.
I stayed completely dry underneath it.
It kept me very dry
uh... that twenty thousand millimeter rating is found by taking a piece of the fabric and
and putting a one inch square tube over that
and filling it with water. The pressure of that water will eventually press through most any
fabric.
So twenty thousand millimeters, is how many millimeters it took before it went through this fabric.
Some waterproof jackets will be in the five thousand to six thousand millimeter range and that might be fine for, you know, just an average day out.
The higher the number, the better the jacket, so keep that in mind as you're looking at waterproof jackets. If you found this video helpful, give us a thumbs up and head on over to our channel to subscribe.
