COMM: This is adventurer Jonathan Trappe taking
off in a boat attached to 100 balloons as part of a test flight for an ambitious attempt
to cross the Atlantic.
COMM: In order to achieve his dream, Jonathan
first has to test if his vessel can land on water in case of an emergency.
JONATHAN: Ideally if we have just the right
winds we'll cut some balloons away from the system, and bring it down to the surface of
the water, and literally splash down into the water. The success of this flight is critical
to our dreams or flying the atlantic, if we're successful on this, that's one giant step
forward to our dreams, to accomplishing our dreams.
COMM: He was cheered on by crowds at the Festival
Del Globo in Mexico, as he took off just after dawn.
COMM: Just 97 seconds after take off, Jonathan
cut away several balloons and descended towards the lake.
COMM: The vessel touched down with a gentle
splash and skimmed across the surface for four minutes.
COMM: The adventurer then took off again,
and accompanied by his co pilot Nidia Ramirez, flew across Mexico for another 11 hours.
