The Missouri Department of Transportation will pay the family of a woman who died on Missouri road $1.3 million.
28 year old Jemma Dent died on December 6th 2005.
Investigators say traffic on the vanderver exit off 44 was so backed up that she was as far back as the highway.
A semi coming from behind couldn't stop in time and pushed Dent's car
underneath the semi in front of her. She was killed instantly. Her family was awarded the money after
a panel of arbitrators agreed
that MODOT should've warned drivers approaching that exit
because there had been a problem with traffic backing up there for months.
>> Lindsay Rakers: Absolutely not about the money and, and it wasn't from the beginning. This was tragic.
Ms. Dent was only 28 years old.
She left a sister, mother, brother and father
who miss her greatly
and it's frustrating to hear that MODOT knew of this traffic back up for months
even years
prior to this and,and could've just put up a pretty inexpensive sign.
MODOT would not comment on the resolution of this case.
Previously Jemma Dent's family received a settlement of $950,000
from the truck driver and the company he worked for.
