Hi, I'm Filipe Silva and I'm part of MoshBitGaming.
Today, like you saw in the title, I'm reviewing Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus.
Well, let's begin!
Although it's a bonus sequel, Abe's Exoddus isn't part of the Oddworld Quintology
which currently consists of Abe's Oddysee and Munch's Oddysee.
Abe's Exoddus brought many positives points regarding gameplay, history and atmosphere, making the past and future of Mudos
increasingly complex, mysterious and exciting.
Mudos is the continent where Abe's Exoddus story takes place.
For the time being, we only know a small fraction of the species on this continent.
Abe is a Mudokon, a natural species of Mudos. Not very smart, but has a good heart, as they say.
Abe uses his lips sealed to remember his goal, save all the slaves from the clutches of Glukkons.
One of the novelties regarding the gameplay, is the fact that we can possess the mythical wildlife and industrial species,
such as the unstoppable Scrab, the vicious friend Paramite as well as the stupid Sligs and the greedy Glukkons.
We can also possess farts. Yes, farts.
There is a section completely made thinking about puzzles of this type.
Amazingly, it works...who knows why.
With the power to possess other species, we obtain the power to "talk".
Previously, we could only use Abe and Sligs
but Abe's Exoddus makes it possible to communicate using any wild species.
Except Fleeches.
I hate those ***- Moving on!
The gameplay is very similar to the original Prince of Persia and Flashback,
the latter being the ultimate inspiration.
Abe can walk, run, sneak, jump, run/jump and a varied arsenal of Olympic activities,
being the most important, the chant, in which, Abe can possess species that will appear in his path.
However, not all species may be possessed, so be careful!
Chanting is very important, being the only way of saving mudokons.
The integral mechanic of the game may be the Gamespeak, wherein using combinations of buttons,
Abe can communicate with the world around him,
either to help his fellow Mudokons or simply to distract the Sligs.
I say it could be the integral mechanic, because besides from this game being a platformer,
the levels are completed through Puzzles.
Some difficult,
others not so much.
A new range of puzzles comes from the fact that now the Mudokons have emotions or being blind,
which makes some very easy puzzles into a more complicated ones.
The story, very briefly and without spoiling anything, it's about Abe trying to save his buddies,
while disabling the Necrum mines, where his ancestors are buried.
But Abe realizes the great plan of Glukkons, to make his ancestors bones into energy drink.
So, the objective becomes to stop the Soulstorm Brewery.
The atmosphere of Abe's Exoddus is more colorful than Abe's Oddysee, but it still is intriguing, obscure
and sometimes macabre.
The background noises, whether is Sligs walking or just birds flying, associated with the great soundtrack,
makes the atmosphere even more complete and rich.
This is one of those games where the atmosphere takes us by surprise and holds us to the end.
I played Abe's Oddysee when I received my first PlayStation, back in 1997.
The demo of Abe's Oddysee was in demo1. My first impression at that time was fear.
The game made me uncomfortable, but I decided to face that fear and play the demo.
And thank goodness I did. It is one of the sagas that struck me the most as a child,
teen and young adult, with its easy jokes and its anti-capitalist, spiritual and to help others themes.
To this date, it remains one of my favorites sagas.
Currently, both Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus are available in the PlayStation Store.
For those who know the series, that are asking themselves "why Abe's Exoddus and not Abe's Oddysee?", it's quite simple.
I prefer Abe's Exoddus.
Besides that, for some reason, the universe decided that I could not play Abe's Oddysee, nor record it.
"Eh!"
As a result, this game deserves my seal of approval.
This game has everything to, for any player worth his salt, have a good time and have an amazing and unforgettable experience.
By the way, Oddworld Inhabitants and JAW LTD are doing a total "remake" of the game.
You can click at the end of the video to see the trailer.
And with that, I end this analysis. Do not forget to watch the rest of our videos, like and do all that crap.
Till next time and Mosh on!
