Module 1 is all about the roots and ideals of the American Dream. When the founding fathers
came to this country, they came in search of freedom and liberty. They wanted to escape
the persecution they felt in their homeland to start a new life filled with opportunity
and unlimited potential.

We'll explore some of the early writings from the Puritan era then dive into some more modern
pieces. These writers knew what they wanted to say and used very specific techniques to
say it. You'll be analyzing the way these authors used words to get their points across.
We will also be looking at how advertisers use some of the same techniques to get us
to buy their products. After all, having lots of stuff is an essential part of the American
Dream.
