My name is Yemi Adefulu. I currently work as a Business Development Manager in Shell.
I'm responsible for evaluating new business opportunities across Europe.
These attributes are quite - are incredibly - important. I think that what they allow
you to do is, they allow you to create, to look through a framework at what are the areas
that I currently have evidence against, or I need to gather evidence against, and reflect
through those different areas and say, 'Where am I today in that area versus where do I
need to be in that area?' The attributes are skills that you can use, not just in a work
environment, but from a personal perspective. For me, it's probably the critical thinking
and effective communication. You constantly come up with problems on a day-to-day basis
and the ability to be flexible and think really through those issues and be open to challenges
from the different functions around how those issues can effectively be mitigated or eliminated
in its entirety, to ensure that the transaction is a good enough transaction, value-wise,
but also from a safety perspective, is quite critical, and requires that element of thinking
to be able to do that. And it also requires that constant conversation with a whole range
of people from different parts of the organisation. Well I think that the students, also, should
take the ownership around, when you're writing evidence, I always ask myself against any
evidence, so writing my CV, anything at all, I ask myself, 'So what?'. So I look at the
evidence, I read it, and I say, 'So what?' Because the evidence, when I ask myself 'So
what?' needs to deliver the message as against what I'm benchmarking. So you're constantly
asking yourself, 'So what?' -- you shouldn't only, if you feel like there's a little bit
of a gap, or even if you don't, it's always worth testing it out with other people as
well. So, working with a bunch of your friends, working with the careers centre, but also
working with personal tutors as well, and really testing with them: Am I providing the
evidence as against the areas that I've clearly highlighted as areas of development.
