How to Make Your Futon More Comfortable. Does your futon feel flimsy, flat, lumpy, or saggy?
Before you give up, try these methods to spruce up your slab of foam. You will need Small
pillows or foam wedges Foam egg carton Mattress pad Futon cover and baseball bat or broom
handle (optional). Step 1. Rotate your futon mattress frequently. Flip it over and put
the side that was at your head down at your feet. If regular rotation doesn't fluff up
the fibers enough, try rolling and unrolling the mattress or beating it on both sides with
a baseball bat or broom handle. Step 2. Take the futon off the frame and move it to the
floor. The cheap frames many futons come with don't provide adequate support for a sagging
mattress. Step 3. Stuff small pillows or foam wedges under the mattress when it's in the
sofa position to level the seating area. Accent the arms of the futon frame with soft pillows
for even more comfortable seating. Step 4. Buy a thick foam egg carton mattress topper
to lay on your futon, and cover it with a mattress pad and sheets. Step 5. Buy a spare
futon cover that is soft yet durable. The cover protects your futon, and with a spare
you'll always have one that's clean. Step 6. If your futon is still uncomfortable, try
adjusting the amount of fluff inside. If it's too firm, open it up and pull some out. Or,
if it's too flimsy, create another layer by buying extra stuffing and shoving it inside.
