Leonardo Ferrer in the Studio. What story do you have to close today's special coverage?
Thanks Carlos good morning. Well behind every invention and technological development there is a group of creative minds that
are in charge of developing them.
We just met a group of very talented Mexicans in Redmond Washington at the Tech Fest 2008.
Their talent and capabilities are already among the best in the world. Check this story out!
This complex of smart buildings in the USA... surrounded by trees,
gardens,
lakes,
and technology...
is known as the software city.
It is the principal operation center of the multinational company that Bill Gates founded in 1975.
It gathers the main computer geniuses of the world.
More than 300 Mexicans with expertise in different areas of technological development are working here in Redmond Washington,
also known as the software city, at northeastern USA.
This is the story of a talented group of Mexicans.
Most of them are college graduates from technological universities from Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City.
Some of them knew each other from their student life.. others became friends at this place.
Their main objective here at Redmond is that technology benefits more segments of society all over the world.
Technology can impact any area: Medicine, education, ecology. So, in any area you can apply it and develop something.
Ana Lilia assures that the Mexicans that work here are as competitive as the north American, Asian or European.
Here, you are measured against people from all over the world and you are at the same level.
A Mexican can really come here and be just as good or even better as others and have all the potential we have.
For Raul and Gabriel, universities in Mexico are a source of talents.
We are at the same level as any person that studied at any university in the world.
As they say, what's made in Mexico is well done, and its true. Mexicans that come here, do things very well.
The directors at Redmond back up their quality!
The Mexicans we brought here are very good. We are very satisfied with the work they have developed.
This trust has made it easier for other number of nationals to be taken into account
for positions in similar companies across our borders.
I didn't believe it either at first. I was not raised in a culture where they told me that I could fly and go as far as I wanted
But fortunately, one way or another, I have realized that not only me, but also everybody can do it.
Leonardo dreams to go back to Mexico and apply all the acquired knowledge.
My perception is that, here, everything is already done, and in Mexico we still have a lot to do...
and if I can be part of that change, better!
It's not about waiting for your country to give you something, is about looking what can you give to it.
A comet cannot fly without headwind.
Manuel and Ana Lilia share the same thoughts.
I would really like to go back to Tabasco and start a software manufacturer, or even give classes at universities
in order to transmit all the knowledge I have acquired here.
Actually, part of my plan, is to close my cycle in the same place where it began,
and go back to my country to give something back and help the young people behind me.
In the meanwhile, this group of Mexicans, including Ricardo, take full advantage of the opportunity of working in Redmond.
This city, close to Seattle, is in Washington, one of the most economically and technologically developed states in the USA.
There are definitely a lot of places where the Mexican community is directly participating in developing technology
that will be launched in the future.
All of them, combining their talent with researchers from all over the world.
My team looks like a joke; there is a guy from India, from the Philippines, one Mexican...
...two north Americans, a Canadian and one Scottish, my boss.
The opportunity to exchange different points of view with people with different nationalities
has not prevented Armando to forget his roots.
Every now and then we get nostalgic and we get together and look for places that sell Mexican food
It is not as easy as it sounds, but its great to have a community here.
The Mexican community: those that with their talent, capability and results, have set the name of our country very high...
in a city where its technological development programs are recognized around the world.
An example that when there is talent but most of all will, you can distinguish yourself anywhere.
I hope this makes an example and inspiration for other young Mexicans.
