Brown Robo: hello there my good man
today i'm going to tell you the story of when garrett went to go work with happy helpers for the homeless for his junior service project
Red Robo:woohoo
Brown Robo: please sir try to contain your excitement and applause until the end of the story
that would be great
thanks
anyway the organization that garrett worked at was called happy helpers for
the homeless
it's a non-profit organization started in maryland in nineteen ninety three
its founder amber kaufman age eight at the time of its founding along with her
mother and mother teresa as her inspiration started happy helpers by
preparing meals for the homeless in baltimore
happy helpers has since grown from fifty sandwiches made in their first week
to now preparing over six hundred sandwiches and serving over two hundred
and fifty men, women, and children each and every week.
Red Robo: so you're telling me that they went from
a mere fifty sandwiches a week to six hundred or we can just over a couple of
years
Brown Robo: sir that is exactly what i'm telling you
Red Robo: GASP Brown Robo: yeah I know they've had so much success due to their strongly emphasized three-point creed that
every volunteer must follow
number one show people love
number two
the work gets done no matter the weather
and number three only the highest quality items are distributed
Red Robo: that's a pretty dope creed if i do say so myself Brown Robo: i heard
that Red Robo: so where is this fine establishment located Brown Robo: their headquarters is located on
the old stage road in glen burnie, maryland
where they prepare over six hundred sandwiches every saturday and distribute
them and other necessities like clothing and such to the local glen
burnie and baltimore city homeless
happy helpers also makes deliveries of places like our daily bread in downtown
baltimore Red Robo: deliveries Brown Robo: yep thats right
deliveries Red Robo: gosh
what don't they do
Brown Robo: trust me I know
they so super cool
garrett ended up choosing happy helpless because of its proximity to his
house in their flexibility of shedule they just keep getting better
the work garrett did was very rewarding and made the long hours put into it
absolutely worth it
participating in all of the behind the scenes work and witnessing the
dedication and sacrifice that goes into serving those in need really surprised
and humbled him
many of the volunteers he worked with were usually there every weekend
giving up their free time to serve others completely out of the kindness of
their hearts
Red Robo: wow every weekend
that's a lot of weekends Brown Robo: it sure is compadre
happy helpers for the homeless truly has a deep and lasting impact on the
communities that it serves and even on the volunteers doing the serving
seeing the appreciation and gratitude their work received from those in need
made garrett feel proud to be able to be a part of such a great and inspiring
organization
witnessing the hardships of the people he served in those in need gave him the
whole new perspective on life and its struggles and allowed him to truly be
thankful for the one he has
Red Robo: wow a truly inspiring story Brown Robo: indeed
