Hello! I am currently here in Ireland at the well known place, DVI - Deaf Village Ireland.
I would like to take you on a tour, come along!
Check out the sign!
You can see the big old building, it used to be St Joe's school for the Deaf boys which is a bit like an institute.
It used to be very popular in the past, but it is now converted, the upper floor is the history floor where you
can go to find out the school's history, on the middle floor there are literacy classes for Deaf Adults who wish to
improve their skills in literacy and other skills such as computer skills and crafts. The bottom floor is Deaf Hear
which is responsible for advocating and supporting Deaf people and their rights. Lets check out the rest of DVI!
This is the main area of DVI, the front desk is here, the aim of DVI isn't only for Deaf people, its also for hearing people
because that is where money can be made from their attendance to the swimming pools over here,
They have swimming lessons for Deaf children or hearing of Deaf adults, adults of all ages also come here to swim.
Upstairs there is a fitness room where people can come to workout, to the back there is a basketball court and even a
soccer (football) field outside. These are the areas that can be used by all people.
Would you like to buy some food?
This is like a Deaf club which is called 'The Hub'.
Seniors and the youth often come along here for events, the usual friday nights etc.
Here in the centre, there are a number of associations. Lets check them out.
This is the manager of the Deaf Village Ireland's office,
This is the Deaf Youth Association, Irish Deaf Society with their aims of promoting and advocating human right.
CIDP - Catholic Institute for the Deaf People's office,
Deaf Sport Ireland, and this office contains small groups such as the women's group, cafe's group etc.
This here is the information centre where you can go to, to get information that you need about what's happening.
There are chaplains here for people to meet, and over here there is a church which can be used for any religions.
Many Deaf people like to come here.
This is only a short preview of what Deaf Village Ireland contains! It is such a big place, I hope that it will continue
to grow and expand in the future! Bye!
