So of course a very traditional type of pot to make would be a tea pot and I've got a
couple different examples here of tea pots; I'm going to show you both of these, these
styles. Some important similarities are the spouts; one thing that you always need to
keep in mind when you're making a tea pot is the spout needs to be higher than the highest
point of water in the tea pot so that you don't have your tea pouring all over your
table before you're ready to pour it, also you want the lid to have some kind of stem
so when you turn the tea pot the lid doesn't fall off; there's something there to catch
it. Now with this style the handle goes over the top and your finger actually has a place
to rest to hold the lid in place and then this one is a pulled handle and I'll show
you that as well but this one has a deeper stem so that it's less likely to accidentally
get poured off. So for both of these styles of tea pot I'm using two and a half pounds
for the body of the tea pot; I'm using a half a pound for each of the spouts and for the
lids, the smaller lid is one half pound and the larger lid is one pound. So I'm going
o cut all of those pieces of clay and ball them up in preparation for throwing at the
wheel. So there's my two and a half pound piece and I'll ball this up, and as I said
I'll do another two and a half pound piece; three half pound pieces and one one pound
piece, and then I'm ready to start the process.
