Exercise is really important for people who have diabetes; both Type I and Type II. The
way it helps the person with Type I; is it helps to open up the blood; blood vessels
and increase circulation to the extremities which are often compromised by high blood
sugars. Exercise helps to raise the HDL which is the good cholesterol and lower the LDL
which is the bad cholesterol. And in most people with Type II diabetes, there is the
HDL; the good cholesterol is very low and the LDL is very high. So, it helps to correct
that ratio. With the person who has Type II diabetes, exercise is extremely important
because it works like diet. It reduces the insulin on responsiveness. It makes the cells
more responsive to insulin again. And exercise by itself can often replace diabetic medication.
