I'm Barry and I've been working with BTP for about 18 months now.
I was in the Metropolitan Police for a number of years
and I worked 19 years with the specialist firearms command.
Geographically speaking, the BTP is a national force and therefore
you can work in the busy areas or you can be working in more provincial areas.
There are good opportunities within the British Transport Police
to take on both types of role and to specialise, especially into a role like the CTPU has
and the various specialist roles there are in this building.
One day I'm operational firearms commander
so I'm patrolling main stations, which include a lot of people as you might imagine,
[they are] very busy stations; we get tasked to go out with the other teams
in an un-armed role to assist with the expo dogs, to assist with search dogs
and sometimes to assist with the general policing dogs
in their roles, especially at football matches etc.
