There we are, a bit closer to each other than usual, it seems.
And that's because he, Patrick, has broken the camera.
So we now use a different camera with another lens and another size...
...and that makes this car, a Lotus, look more compact than it actually is.
This Lotus Evora gives me a double feeling.
On the one hand I know that, as a car enthusiast...
...Lotus should make me ecstatic.
Great handling, great steering.
And on the other hand, some things stand out to me in a negative way.
The Evora feels a bit like a compromise.
I feel like they haven't really figured it out yet.
The Evora is a more grown-up car...
...than the Elise and all those other race cars Lotus normally build.
That only weigh a couple of kilos, don't have many horsepower...
...but that are very quick because they're so light.
The Evora is a bigger car, with more comfort.
You can also get it as a 2+2.
Then two guinea pigs fit in the rear, literally.
The camera bag, which is quite big, doesn't really fit.
So I don't think fitting rear seats there will work.
There are a couple more things I find weird.
When I turn the windscreen wipers on...
Do you hear it? It's the wiper.
That doesn't sound very 'premium'.
I don't know if Lotus want to be premium...
...but they do want to compete with some German manufacturers.
More specific; Porsche. Even more specific; the Porsche Boxster.
But when you get in a Porsche; everything is right so to speak.
I might be a little bit boring...
...but everything is thought through and perfect.
That isn't exactly the case with the Evora.
There are buttons here in a nice stainless steel panel...
...to turn the lights on for example.
The button is lit, but not clearly.
So you don't really know if you've pressed it or not.
That is clumsy.
Things like that show that...
...this car isn't yet as grown-up as they want it to be.
There's another thing. You may have noticed it...
...the weather is quite bad.
Rain, it's a bit cold.
This is a sports car but I'm having a hard time putting it through its paces...
...because it's very slippery.
I do feel excellent balance and great traction.
The steering feels nice and it breaks fine.
That's all just fine, but I haven't become one with the car yet.
I should get more feeling, that's what a Lotus should excel in.
I'm going right here I think. Meanwhile we're getting lost.
Where's your car, Patrick?
The flip side is that everyone stares at this car.
People come to you to ask what it is, and how fast it is.
Very fast, I guess.
People also asked what it cost.
And I pretended not to know exactly.
And they said: 150 grand? And I said: no.
220 grand then? And I said: no!
It's much cheaper.
Well, cheaper? Less expensive is a better way of putting it.
80 grand buys you a Lotus Evora.
Now it says 12 kilometers. The other one said 4 right? What the f*ck.
That must have been 14.
But it said 4. -It did...
...but signs can make mistakes sometimes. -That's true.
Another good thing is that it's relatively light.
It weighs about 1355 kg (2.987 lbs), depending on how many fuel you're carrying.
That's not very heavy, and you notice that in its handling.
It's nice and agile. And it's fast.
0-62 in 5.1 seconds.
And it only has 280 hp. That sounds like a lot, but it really isn't.
Similar rear-wheel drive cars with this many horsepower take longer to get there.
That said, the engine...
...gives me a double feeling. Again. We're back to where we started.
It comes from Toyota.
Very reliable, unless the gas is stuck.
That doesn't sound very exotic.
"What kind of engine does it have?" A six-cylinder.
"What kind of six-cylinder?" *Cough* Toyota.
If you get annoyed by a windscreen wiper like that...
...I suggest you get a Porsche Boxster or Cayman.
The Cayman is a bit cheaper and a bit slower...
...and the Cayman S is a bit more expensive and still a bit slower.
So you do compromise a bit on speed and maybe even on style...
...but you do get a silent wiper.
Are you not bothered by that?
And do you want to drive around like you have a supercar...
...with people running after you to get your signature.
Then I would just order an Evora.
How do I get to Zierikzee?
