Aggressive driving can lead to time in prison
Drivers, especially those in Seoul, are probably familiar with road rage and aggressive driving.
However, those aggressive drivers who try to take revenge ... be forewarned -- not only
do you risk your life and others, you can also be sent to prison for the way you use
your car. Connie Lee has more. Take a look at this 4x4
vehicle. After it fails to squeeze into the lane in
front of the sedan, the driver of it then decides to cut in front of two other cars...
and then suddenly stops on the side of the road.
The driver then speeds up... and takes revenge ... by splashing water.
Next-- A passenger on a bus, full of rage, throws
punches at the driver... putting the driver's life and possibly other lives in danger.
Between these two scenarios, who would receive the more severe punishment?
The vengeful driver... or the angry passenger?
"Obviously the passenger who hit the bus driver should get the harsher punishment. He directly
injured the other person."
However, the court thinks otherwise. Most recently in Korea, an aggressive driver
was sentenced to one year and six months in prison... for an accident that placed a victim
in the hospital for one week. On the other hand... the man who beat a bus
driver relentlessly and put the driver in hospital for SIX WEEKS, was sentenced to 6-months
in prison. Although both perpetrators were sentenced,
the aggressive driver's punishment was three times more severe.
"By law, if a vehicle is used for acts of violence... it falls under the category of
"dangerous objects," meaning that the driver of the vehicle can be charged for injuring
others and putting lives at risk.
Court officials emphasize that an accident caused by aggressive retaliatory driving is
different from a simple traffic accident; aggressive drivers can be severely punished...
as their vehicles are seen as a form of assault weapon.
