Hey guys, my name is Nicole Martin and I wanted to share with you what my take on the Technographics
Ladder looks like…. With LEGOS!! I know… I’m like 4 years old. Basically the Technographics
Ladder is used to rank how much people contribute to and use social media.
So, at the top of the ladder we have the CREATORS, which is just what it sounds like, they create
things on the Internet. See this guy? He looks like he’s a social blogger, right? He has
sunglasses and a cup of coffee for those late nights when he’s surfing the Internet looking
for cool things to blog about. His presence on the Internet is strong: he publishes his
own blog, has his own webpage that he keeps up to date, he’s on YouTube, and he has
a podcast. Seem crazy? Well according to data only about 21% of American adults are creators.
Next. This guy is called a CRITIC, he has accounts set up everywhere, yet he does not
create his own content, he comments on everyone else’s stuff. For example, say he bought
his Tractor on Amazon.com… He likes it, but isn’t completely satisfied. So, what
does he do? He goes onto Amazon and finds his item and writes a review, giving it only
4 stars because the flatbed on the back doesn’t hold enough hay. Other things this guy may
do is comment on blogs, contribute to online forums and edit a wiki page.
This man looks like a businessman, right? Well, as a COLLECTOR, he uses RSS feeds to
catch the best deals online. Especially the sacred “Bag of Crap” from Woot! He utilizes
wooters.us “Random Crap Autobuy” feature so that when the yellow flashing lights on
Woot go off signaling a Woot Off, that he will never be without his 3 bags of crap.
As a collector, he will also “vote” on websites and add tags to websites and photos.
This girl is a JOINER. She really doesn’t have much of an Internet presence except for
her Facebook, where she has like 449 friends. She will probably frequently post statuses
about how depressing her life is or song quotes, but nothing of real value. She will probably
also keep track of all of her friends and every move they make, earning her the title
of “creeper.” So, this is a cop… and what does he do?
Usually he waits for me to roll through a stop sign, but in this case he is a SPECTATOR.
He will read blogs, listen to podcast, watch YouTube videos, and read forums and customer
reviews. He collects user generated information, without contributing any of his own, and uses
it for personal needs. And then this guy… He’s an INACTIVE. See,
he’s in the Army, but got hurt, so he’s not active right now. This means that he does
not participate in any of the activities that I have already talked about.
So, if you want to know where you fall… you can listen to each description again,
and if you participate in at least one of these activities monthly, then that is where
you fall. Thanks for watching! Catch me on Facebook…
