An investment in Domino's A-Series continuous ink jet printers has enabled the UK's largest private brewery, Wells & Young's.
to boost productivity and cut costs
They are set to almost fully recoup its investment after just one Year.
Founded in 1876 in Bedford.
Wells & Young's has a turnover of £189 million.
The company produces over 30 000 bottles. and over 51 000 cans per hour
On a high-speed canning and bottling production line
shipping to over 25 countries around the world
The company's decision to replace its ageing coding and marking equipement
came after the cost of maintaining its existing machines
escalated significantly over a 12 month-period
Wells & Young's Small Pack Continous Improvements Leader
Justin Adams :
"Due to the age of the machines we had a lot of maintenance problems.
downtime was high and we had to have
a back up machine for each printer
in case any of them developed a fault.
These difficulties, along with the added expense of service agreements and parts
meant that the cost of operating and maintaining existing equipement rose by 20% in 2011.
Justin Adams : "When the proposals came back from the different suppliers
the Domino team stood out for having really listened to my criteria
and for having tailored their recommended solution accordingly.
Wells & Young's chose Domino A-Series printers
5 new A420i
2 new A300+
On its bottling lines the brewery uses the A300+ Opaque printer
to apply twin lines of code onto glass bottles
which range in size from 330ml to 670ml
Print twin lines of code onto the cans
and codes onto trays and cardboard boxes
Justin Adams : "Our calculation revealed that, by choosing Domino,
our annual running costs including ink, would be 50% less
than if we opted one of the other suppliers."
Paul Johnson - Domino UK Area Sales Manager :
"Domino's A-Series i-Tech printers are available with our Safeguard five year warranty.
This warranty offers production convenience and uptime as the full cost of ownership
for parts and labour are covered for the five year period.
The only additional cost for running the printers is the inks."
Justin Adams :
"Our investment in Domino solution has saved us significant costs
in terms of maintenance, service agreements
and machine downtime.
We've been pleased with the sales and service received from Domino
on this project and are now considering further investment
in some of their other print and apply label solutions."
