The World Class Cities Partnership started just about two years ago
under the idea that there are cities around the world
that have a lot in common.
They have common challenges and common solutions
to those challenges.
So what we are doing is building a network of cities,
a network that provides connections
between the universities within cities
and their municipal government,
but also link each city with one another,
so that we can learn from each other experiences
and build off the successes while also avoiding the challenges
in failures of public policy.
I think Barcelona is not only ready,
I think it's one of the models in the world.
What Barcelona has achieved since the Olympics
has been incredible.
It's redefined itself in the world's image
of what Barcelona is and who the people are
and what opportunities are open to Barcelona.
So, I think it provides not only an opportunity
to learn from other cities,
but to teach us just how much hope there is for all cities
to promote themselves globally
and to build a society that leverages all it has to offer.
The World Class Cities Partnership
is pleased and honored to be in Barcelona
leading a delegation of business and civic leaders from Boston
to learn from things like Barcelona Activa,
an incredible innovative project in system
that we can learn from.
We are building an innovation district in Boston.
And what Barcelona has already done
over the last several years, over a decade,
with the 22@ district is a model for us to learn from.
In Boston we are just starting this.
The various programs of Barcelona Activa
are a tremendous opportunity for us to learn
how do we train our citizens
to take on the jobs of the 21st century,
to provide them with the skills they need
for these types of technical jobs,
how do entrepreneurs start their business,
how do we attract entrepreneurs to our cities
like Barcelona is doing.
